Here at BikeRumor we’ve seen so much new clothing and gear cross our inboxes over the past few weeks that we wanted to share some more of the highlights. Together with the greater release of their 2017 range of protective apparel, Alpinestars debuted an interesting new option for gravity riders trying to lighten up. The new Paragon bibshorts include integrated pockets for armor pads in the hips, as well as level 1 CE replaceable back protection pads. What makes the new bibs really unique though, is the hydration bladder sleeve on the back. In addition to jersey style pockets added to the back of the bibs, there are guide loops for keeping a hydration hose in place. Meant to be paired with the Evolution jacket, the Paragon bibs all but eliminate the need for a backpack.

We covered the release of the new modular FR01 shoes from OWN back in August. The new shoes are a unique concept, offering a single outer flat soled riding shoe, but with replaceable inner liners depending on the season. One liner is lightweight and breathable for the warmer months, and the other option is an insulated, wicking liner for keeping warm in the cold. Initially only offered in a black/white combo, OWN have announced a limited run of all-black shoes. Retailing for 220€, production of the Black Editions will be limited to 230 pairs worldwide. When we initially covered them, their shoes were preorder only, but models began shipping early this year. OnlyWhatsNecessary.global

All Mountain Style, aka AMS, just dropped a new 3/4 sleeve jersey collection. Respectively named the Jungle Camo, the Flow R, and the Ape – the jerseys are all made in Barcelona from 100% polyester for quick drying. Marketed at the trail riding/all-mountain crowd, the jerseys feature built in goggle wipes, reinforced stitching in critical areas, as well as a dropped tail to keep you covered when in a riding position. Available in M, L & XL, they retail for 69€. AllMountainStyle.com

Winter isn’t over yet, especially for those used to warmer weather. Spanish bike maker BH just released some new apparel including these colder weather accessories. The new thermal jacket is made from Freedom Windtex fabric and has a waterproof outer membrane that also acts as a wind blocker. Intended for many seasons of use, BH chose to use high quality details throughout the line, while still trying to keep affordability. Pairing with the thermal jacket is a new pair of bib tights. Reinforced, elasticized panels throughout promise comfort and full freedom of movement. For more visit BHbikes.com

Continuing the cold weather trend are these new Merino wool warmers from Snek. Made in the USA from a blend of 51% Nylon, 39% Merino & 10% Spandex, the new warmers promise warmth, comfort & freedom of movement. Lined with a soft terry and boasting silicon grippers at either end, Snek’s new warmers utilize flat lock stitching at all seams to minimize any change of chafing. Snek wants you to worry less about the weather and focus on your actual ride. Arm warmers retail for $68, knee warmers will run your $72, and they are offered as a set for $115. Those shoes are interesting. Ever since adidas bought 5.10, I’ve been looking for alternatives, but there doesn’t seem to be any when it comes to sticky rubber. Can anyone comment on the vibram rubber compound used on these shoes? Every company advertises sticky rubber but non seem to be able to match 5.10.

There aren’t many reviews out there on the FR01 but the few I have seen said that the grip is good, but not 5.10 good. That is similar to what the you hear people say about the Vibram soled Shimano flat pedal shoes. Depending on your needs, that may be enough, or not. I’d happily try them out as a demo, but have never found myself wishing for less grip on the pedals, so the pricetag is a bit more daunting given the questionable stickyness.

Thanks for the info. I like max traction, s1 or mi6 full dotty tread. It doesn’t appear any company can match those compounds.

I could really use those Alpinestars shorts. Having the cool water against my back (until it got warm that is), and pockets attached to shorts where stuff won’t bounce around like they do in a road jersey, is the way to go.
