Continuing a long running tradition, one of Trek-Segafredo’s newest riders is also getting a new bike. Of course it’s not just any rider, but the famous Spaniard known as Alberto Contador. It’s also not just any bike, with a new paint theme honoring his victories in all three Grand Tours. Draped over the Émonda SLR as a canvas, the white, yellow, red, and pink paint job isn’t just for Contador either. For another $1,000 on top of the price of your Project One Émonda SLR, you can have nearly the same bike which you can see after the jump…

Starting with a white and gold pearl base coat, the special livery pays homage to the leader’s jerseys of the Tour de France (yellow), Giro d’Italia (pink), and Vuelta a España (red) – all of which have been won by Contador at one point in his career. Mixed in, you’ll find landmarks and other icons of each race along with Contador’s own contribution, “Querer es poder” on the seat tube which is said to mean “Where there is a will, there is a way.”

Hand painted in Waterloo, Wisconsin, the paint is an option on any Émonda SLR (6, 8, or 9), at an upgrade cost of $1,000. You can also roll the Trek Segafredo livery for $500 less, or go with almost any combination of colors your heart desires. Available now.

Contador is one of the biggest names in the sport, yet he switches from the 2 big US manufacturers every few years. It’s hard to take these riders seriously when they talk about how great their bike is. I know Lance helped sell a lot of bikes (which is a net gain for the industry and acceptance of the sport in this country, despite his “problems”), but does anyone buy a bike these days because so-and-so pro rides it?

Its all about contracts and money at the end of the day, he gets paid loads of money to say that. its just a mass produced, mould born , one size fits all.
