News outta Boulder, Colorado, DEAN Ultimate Bikes (DEAN) announced that it had updated its bike line and “RetroFresh”ed its website and visual aesthetics. “DEAN Ultimate Bicycles was our original concept. We are bringing the focus back to our roots in creating top-tier titanium bikes while hitting that nostalgic sweet spot that made us all love these bikes over the decades.”

I somehow missed covering DEAN at last year’s MADE Show, but apparently, that’s where they launched the prototypes of modernized flagship designs. Designs like the Colonel and the El Diente for example.

DEAN considers themselves “one of the USA’s longest continually running titanium bicycle manufacturers” and enjoyed a very positive response from their MADE Show appearance. And, because of that response, they have finalized the designs for their Torreys (gravel), El Diente (road), and Colonel (mountain bike). Thus, invigorating the brand’s look and feel with a “throwback vibe”.

Some of the “RetroFresh” highlights

Dean is old school, like myself. I always liked their whimsical multicolored logo. The modern Dean is just as good looking as the atmospheric Moots bikes, but at a substantial savings. Not too many titanium builders offer the dark finished titanium.

Just a heads up titanium blasted with aluminum oxide which creates the dark finish is horrible for showing finger prints….

My wife’s first real bike in about 93 was a dean ti Hardtail. She finally sold it in 2017. Heartbreaking. I felt the same about my mid90s 853 Jester.
