One of the coolest bikes we saw at the 2025 MADE Show was the Donkelope Bikes Commuter, which came with a BMX bike in tow. Out of Bellingham, Washington, Donkelope’s Greg Heath is no stranger to showing fantastic bikes at MADE. Back in 2023, we awarded Greg Best of Show for his super clean All-Road bike.

The bike on display at the show this year was really cool. Greg uses his commuter to pull his BMX bike to the local dirt jumps. The jumps are only a few miles away, so Greg said it doesn’t make sense to drive there. Therefore, he created the Commuter/BMX carrier.

Greg came up with some clever and creative ways to haul the BMX bike and the front wheel. For instance, the 20″ front wheel is attached to the fork of the commuter with a fabricated wheel holder. This holder allows the front wheel to tuck right under the front basket of the commuter.

He then added fork dropout mounts to the rear seat stays of the commuter to attach the BMX bike’s fork. This solution looks clean and doesn’t look like an afterthought.

And just for shits and giggles, there is also an additional kiddie trailer tow hitch on the BMX bike’s rear chainstay which Greg uses to bring his dog along for the ride. A bike, towing a bike, towing a trailer.

But, this is not just a BMX bike being towed by a commuter; there is some real thought in the design. For example, the bottom bracket and cranks are the same on both bikes, as well as the brakes. When Greg arrives at the trails, the pedals are easily swapped between bikes, the BMX is assembled, and he hits the jumps.
Donkelope & Reynolds 853 For the Win

Lately, I thought it was cool that the frame on the commuter was built using legendary Reynolds 853 steel tubes. It’s one of my all-time favorite frame materials. The bags on both the commuter and BMX bikes were custom-made by LOAM Equipment.

This bike is an example of form and function working together, ingenuity, and problem-solving to make the bike what you need it to be, bucking the norm. It’s also an example of allowing the bike to be an integral and viable way to get around in your life. And, it’s a perfect example of the skill and creativity of the small, independent frame builder.
