It may seem like most advancements in the industry are happening at the high end of the spectrum (read $$$), but there are a number of new products aimed at producing the best bang for the buck. Take the new Stan’s S1 wheel range. The aluminum wheels are designed with similar profiles as their MK3 wheelsets but with slightly thicker wall thicknesses. The result is possibly even a more durable wheelset that is even more affordable, and available in six different widths…
Right off the bat, we’ve already had a positive experience with the Stan’s Baron wheelset after an enjoyable spin up a mountain on the new Niner JET 9. At that point the wheels were still sort of a “secret” but we were told that it was a sign of things to come. As it turns out, the Baron was the first of 6 new aluminum rims all with a sleeved, eyeleted, aluminum construction with different widths to fit the current tires on the market according to their Wide Right system.
On the larger end of the spectrum, Stan’s offers the Sentry, Baron, and Major at 32, 35, and 38mm internal width. That works out to 2.5-3″, 2.8-3.2″, and 3.0-3.5″ according to their Wide Right nomenclature.
For the non-plussed among u, the Crest, Arch, and Flow will also be offered in the S1 series with 26, 29, and 32mm internal widths. These rims are meant for 2.0-2.25, 2.25-2.5, and 2.35-2.8″ respectively.
Each wheelset is built with Sapim Race Black spokes (2.0/1.8/2.0mm) with Secure Lock Brass Silver Nipples, and of course ships with Stan’s tubeless tape and valves. All six use Stan’s patented Bead Socket Technology and will be built with Neo hubs which can adapt to most of the current hub standards on the market. Shipping in Spring 2017, all wheelsets will sell for $455.

Stan’s kicks ass. These guys have their act together. All different widths, same excellent price and tough ready to go. Weights are respectably normal.
I agree. They are killing it on the wheel game.
Nice to have options, but these things are pretty heavy imo. One of the big bike companies that people love to hate based in Morgan Hill sells an AL wheelset with an 29mm internal width that weighs 1,690 grams, for $600. But you can get them on sale, so prices can be very close.
STANS FTW!
(naysayers are clueless)
Love these. Thanks Stans.
Love Stans but have had concern about their quality of late. On two different wheelsets I have had issues with the Hugo rims and neo hubs over the past few months. I hope they get it together for this product line.
“eyeleted” rims – Finally!
Congratulations Stan’s on KILLING your high end wheel business!
Why would anybody buy the high end wheels now that I can get the same NEO hub, similar rims and Sapim spokes for over $200 less that the current wheels?
