After overwhelmingly positive feedback from their alien-themed Giro d’Italia switch-out kit back in May, EF Pro Cycling are at the Tour de France with a Spooky new Assos kit. The aliens are back. But now trapped upside down in a mirror universe, so they only get to come out on rest days. But if you want, you too can ride in the ultra-limited edition Spooky Alien kit…

EF had to switch out their signature pink kit at the Giro to not be confused with the race leader’s Maglia Rosa. That’s where the aliens first turned up this season. But there’s no conflicting pink jersey at the Tour de France, so this one is just for fun. That also means the team won’t be racing in their Spooky Assos kit. But will wear it during their rest day recovery rides.

“Hovering above France’s biggest and greatest race, ASSOS introduces the ASSOS x EF Spooky Collection. Inspired by close encounters from worlds beyond, this limited-edition release invites riders into an alternate reality. We believe. Do you?”

The green & blue Spooky design features an upside-down, mirrored team logo on the front. Assos explains it’s meant to represent an alternate “perception that other life forms might have of us here on planet Earth“. A side benefit is that the inverted log makes EF look more Extra Terrestrial. Perfect for being chased through the woods, trying to evade abduction.

“In a playful addition to the design, the right shoulder of the jersey features the exact GPS coordinates of the ASSOS Headquarters in Ticino, Switzerland – ensuring extraterrestrials know exactly where to return the subject after an abduction.”

Much like the Giro alien kit, Assos strictly limited the new Tour spooky alien kit’s numbers. There’s classic roadie kit for men and women – still available in select styles & sizes. But once again, it feels like Assos kinda dropped the ball on fans. Because the long-sleeve Tactica gravel tees – that would be perfect for casual riders and showing team support off the bike – they all sold out so fast that they were gone before we even looked for them.

…unfortunately, already sold out!

Please, Assos! If you are going to make special EF team designs for fans to show their support, make sure you make enough so fans can actually buy the stuff they can wear off the bike. I would hazard a guess that most cycling fans are not watching the Grand Tours in spandex. The Tactica tech tees are perfect for transitioning on and off the bike as fans. So give us more of those!

Spooky Equipe R and Dyora R jerseys are still available for $240 / £180 /205€, in some sizes. And you can still pick up matching team edition $280 / 250€ Equipe R/Dyora R and $230 / 180€ Mille GT/Uma GT bib shorts with matching silver graphics to complete the look. Just no mirror universe ET logos.
