ENVE Classics road bike wheelsets built on DT Swiss 350 hubs

ENVE has partnered with DT Swiss to create a (somewhat) more cost conscious wheelset built with their standard clincher and tubular rims.

The new ENVE Classics are all built on a DT Swiss 350 hub with Mach Prime spokes. Rim options include the 25, 45 and 65mm deep tubulars and 45 and 65mm clinchers. The rims are the same US-made rims as always, which use their proprietary internal bladder molding process with molded spoke holes (as opposed to drilled). Braking surface is textured for improved modulation and power, and as we saw in our factory tour, they can handle quite a bit of heat.

The ENVE Classics come in competitive on the scale and hit the wallet considerably easier than other big name brand carbon wheels, including their own wheels built with higher end DT hubs. Now, their complete line up excluding the Smart aero wheels, looks like this:

PRESS RELEASE: Through a strategic partnership with ENVE’s spoke and hub suppliers, ENVE will now be offering the 25, 45, and 65 Classic rim models as complete builds on DT Swiss 350 hubs. The addition of this new DT spec to ENVE’s current hub offerings allows for the American Made ENVE Classic rims to be offered at a new price point without sacrificing ENVE’s known and proven ride quality and durability.

The ENVE Classics were introduced to the high-end wheel market in 2007 and have steadily forged a niche in the competitive carbon fiber wheel market with their innovative features, trusted durability and unique ride quality. ENVE CEO Sarah Lehman said, “Our Classic wheel line represents the heritage of ENVE design and technology. Being able to share these technologies with more cyclists is exciting for us since it’s all about the ride experience at ENVE.”

ENVE Technologies that were born with the ENVE Classics include Molded in Spoke Hole Technology (US Patent No. 8,313,155), engineered carbon brake surfaces, fully removable bladder systems, and dedicated U.S. rim manufacturing. When all of these technologies come together, the result is an ultra-durable carbon fiber wheel set that is designed and tested to be used as both a training and race wheel.

ENVE Marketing Manager Jake Pantone commented, “From the beginning, consumers and dealers have expressed their desire for a lower entry point to an ENVE wheel set, but to do so would have required a departure from ENVE’s core competencies. Ultimately we found a creative solution and are able to offer the consumer a light-weight American built rim, DT Swiss hub, bladed spokes, and ENVE’s 5-Year Warranty at an excellent price point.”

ENVE expects to begin shipping the DT350 Classics wheel sets in February 2013.

Woah not bad at all on the tubular weights. I love me some 240s, I wonder how these 350s are.

350s are nice. I use them on my cx bike. They are even better with the ratchet upgrade from 18 to 36 teeth I believe (which I also have) – helps increase engagement. I wonder if that will be an option for these sets once produced. However, to my knowledge, 350s are made in Taiwan, not in Switzerland like the 240s and up are (again to my knowledge).

$2000 for a downgraded version (old mold, lesser hubs, traditionnal V shape and rim width) ? Dude, go with Reynold’s Assault or Strike for $500 less and much the same spec…

US made and exceptionally strong, still DT hubs, albeit lesser variants. There’s a reason they’re more than the entry level Reynolds, just as there’s a reason the Reynolds are more than the Williams.

Besides protectionnism, I can’t see any. Those will not provide you any more advantage on the road (where it truly matters) than Williams or Reynold’s entry levels. HED, Zipp and hell yeah Boyd 2013 will provide you with some verified advantages for that amount of money… And less.

I already have assaults anf 404 fc and these still look pretty good. A lot of people swear by the enve 45 rims.
