Ergon’s ergonomic Allroad collection delivers new levels of mixed-surface gravel & all-road rider comfort at both your seat and handlebars. Beyond the ‘cush without the mush’ Core saddles, Ergon Allroad now gets new discipline-specific bar tape, vibration damping bar inserts, aerobar pads, and a fresh new life for their popular VCLS leaf spring seatpost…
Ergon Allroad ergonomic cockpit component collection
The Allroad collection officially got its start last fall with the shock-absorbing foam sandwich of the SR Allroad Core saddle. But Ergon can bring all-road comfort to more than just the seat of your bib shorts.
Many cyclists like myself may associate Ergon with ergonomically shaped mountain bike grips, but they say they can bring just as much comfort to drop bar riders as well via variable thickness tape, under-tape pads & aerobar pads.
Ergon mixed-surface BT bartape & Orthocell pad kits
Adapted to all modern dropbar riders, the Ergon BT Bartape series offers three discipline-specific options for road, all-road & gravel. Each set of EVA foam bartape gets its own thickness and anti-slip texture for vibration damping & control characteristics suitable for any type of dropbar riding.
The thinnest 2mm BT Road tape for 33€ with a fine texture for a more direct road feel. A middle ground 2.5mm thick BT Allroad tape sells for 38€ with a medium texture for all-terrain control. Then, the extra thick 3.5mm BT Gravel tape for 40€ with the most grippy pattern.
Ergon also gives each a 3-stage grip pattern to each of the bar tapes to guide cyclists during install of how much overlap they want to vary a thinner or thicker wrap job with each tape – or to vary thickness on different parts of the bar. (Road & Allroad tapes are a standard 210cm long, while Gravel tape is 230cm long to all more overlap or cover wider bars.)
Each tape can also be wrapped starting from either end of the pre-coiled tape to get more or less grip.
Several colors are available of each, with brighter colors on the road end and more muter tones on the gravel end of the spectrum.
For a bit more comfort under your tape, the 30€ BT Orthocell Pad Kit is a 4-piece set to improve damping in the drops and on the tops of any dropbar bike. The lightweight 30g orthopedic foam kit is made in Germany and slotted to install easily and adapt to both aero or road bar shapes.
For time trial, triathlon, or even adventure racing setups, the 40€ CRT Arm Pad kits offer a more comfortable direct pad replacement for Profile Design Ergo (10mm thick) & Race (6mm) aerobars. Again using Orthocell foam, Ergon promises better pressure distribution for more comfort and the ability to maintain an aero tuck longer for higher speeds.
CF Allroad Pro Carbon seatpost
One of the most well-known Ergon dropbar comfort products is the VCLS split-leaf carbon seatpost – often attributed to Canyon who partnered on its development, but has since spec’ed the post on tons of endurance bikes. Now, the Ergon branded CF Allroad Pro Carbon seatpost adds zero setback and 25mm setback versions in 27.2mm diameter for 250€ to bring more comfort to all-road and gravel bikes.
It eats up vibrations by each leaf flexing independently, while the head clamp design means your saddle won’t tilt when you hit a big bump.
The lightweight, maintenance-free carbon post weighs just 220g. Ergon also now has a 30€ flip head hardware to use the post with 7x9mm carbon railed saddles.
