2014-Domahidy-Member-Card-R3-2

Steve Domahidy’s new namesake brand of bikes kickstarted things earlier this year, took pre-orders, and now the first batch is on the water, en route to the U.S. for a December delivery.

As a bonus, all of them will arrive at their new homes with a prepaid one-year IMBA membership (and a free pair of IMBA socks!). Domahidy helped start Niner Bikes before leaving to work with Factor Bikes and others, then started his own brand to offer titanium and Reynolds 853 steel bikes in both 650B and 29er wheel sizes. He had this to say about the give back:

“While at Niner, Chris (Sugai) and I both agreed that IMBA was the lifeblood to a sport we made our living from, so it was important to support them. was our decision to start the limited-‐edition paint scheme to benefit IMBA and it was a huge success. With Domahidy Designs, I wanted to find a meaningful way to continue on that road, but not mimic what Niner is already doing (that latest ROS 9 Plus was amazing!). So I decided to be the industry leader, and pay for a one year IMBA membership for every single person who buys a Domahidy Designs, and for added incentive, I’m throwing in a free pair of IMBA socks.”

This is pretty cool for sure. Makes sense as IMBA’s big goals are making 29er-friendly, completely un-challenging tracks. Boring bikes need boring places to ride. Whoa, easy now, let’s not jump into “we need easy trails to grow the sport BS.” The bike industry chases its tail in every instance except for new trail design and construction. If the bike companies followed the lead of IMBA, we’d be regressing to rigid hardtails with cantilevers and 140mm quill stems.

That headline needs to be reworded (“The astronaut saw the moon in the spaceship.”).

I thought I’d get a free bike by only paying for a 1-year IMBA membership!
