designer bike lock and bicycle security solutions for in the home and outdoors

Dexigner.com has a sweet collection of bicycle lock and security contraptions designed for the Design Council‘s Residential Bike Theft Challenge. The goal was to develop light security measures for inside and immediately outside of a home or apartment, and we can see a lot of appeal for many of these in cities like New York.

Above, the Armlock mounts to the wall and swivels flat when not in use. To secure the bike, simply place the top tube into the slot and the trigger mechanism automatically locks.

We also have the latest design of something you can actually buy to elegantly and simply store your bike at home from local artisan J.Hickey. That, and more sweet concepts after the break…

Lupin apartment door bicycle lock

The Lupin is brilliant in its simplicity. A fixing loop of high strength material is slid through the hinge side of a door with a “brick” left inside the building. On the outside, you can simply loop your cable or chain lock through it and secure your bike. Not only is it portable, but it doesn’t require any modification to the home or apartment:

The other one we really like is the PlantLock for public installations. Versus a traditional bike rack, this is much greener and pretty.

While the others may be concepts, the JHickey Hang ‘n’ Seat is available now. Made by Jamey in Charlotte, NC, it’s the latest in his line of super simple bicycle mounting, hanging and storage solutions. It’s only $14 and seems much more elegant than some other things we’ve seen. Here’s how it works:

Jamey – that’s sweet. Need some – just need to clean out the basement enough to use them. I’m local.

I really like that Armlock concept, but I can’t find it anywhere. Do you know where they sell it? I am in Europe, so would love to find the UK seller, but would order from the US as well.
