- Oh Canada: Pedal across Canada for their 150th birthday – It’s still all the way off for next summer, but there’s been a lot of talk in the news recently about going to Canada for some reason. Anyway, what better reason that to go for a ride, one that puts RAAM to shame a bit. It’s not a non-stop race, but rather 80 riding days, 16 rest days, and 8,780km (that’s 5,456 in freedom units.) Organized by leading long distance tour operator TDA Global Cycling, the fully supported tour from Haida Gwaii – an island on Canada’s west coast – to Signal Hill in St. John’s Newfoundland a bit to the east. Riders will pedal through all cultures from Aboriginal, English, to French and everything from the Rocky Mountains, to the Great Plains, the rugged shores of Lake Superior, endless Ontario & Quebec lakes and forests, along the St Lawrence River, to the wilds of Newfoundland. For those that don’t have three months to kill, it looks like you can do segments of the tour as well. TDAglobalcycling.com…
Advocacy
- #CB4Others auctions off Steve Peat’s autographed jersey for charity, with more to come– Each week, for the next 8 weeks, Crankbrothers will be auctioning MTB memorabilia from their athletes to help raise money for charity through the Crankbrothers For Others initiative. It had kicked off this week, but we were too late to get it out to you before they had already raised more than $1400 for the SPS Scholarship Fund, helping underprivileged athletes get the equipment, fitness training, and coaching to launch a successful professional career in the sport. But they’ve got plenty of other good projects in the works worth supporting, and will be back the middle of next week to take to their ebay store with the next batch of goodies. CrankBrothers.com
In the news
- Don’t ride angry: Exercise, anger may trigger heart attack – The St. Augustine Record reported this week on a large international study funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The observational study apparently linked being angry or upset with significant in crease of suffering heart attack symptoms within an hour and suggested that heavy physical exertion had a similar effect. Combing both anger and exercise made it even worse. StAugustine.com
Gear & development
- Red White is looking for women to help develop their new endurance bib shirts – Based on the well-received The Bib & The Race bib shorts that they already produce, Red White is in the second stage of developing a similar solution for ultra endurance riding women. So they are looking for 3 women to join their R&D testing team to test the new shorts and their all new custom-made women’s endurance chamois. We’ve been very happy riding the men’s version, so if that sounds like something you would be into, apply on their site before the Nov 14 deadline. RedWhite.cc
- Triple Eight wants to eliminate the funk with SmellWell – Uncovered on a recent trip to Europe, where it has become rather popular, the folks at Triple Eight have brought SmellWell back to the states. Tossing the pack in a stinky box of kneepads immediately made the room smell better, and by the next day had completely neutralized the stank. They were so please, they now use them in their sneakers, gear bags, and cars and are even distributing SmellWell as well in the US. Triple8.com
