After seeing their team riders mixing rim depths from front to rear to suit specific courses and conditions, Fulcrum is now offering one of the more popular combos. The latest generation Speed 40 and 55 millimeter deep rims debuted in August with all-new layups for both clincher and tubular versions, but were only sold in matched pairs until now.
The rims use Fulcrum’s laser-etched braking surface for improved friction and braking performance. The rims are aero shaped and keep the “Longitudinal Twill” weave pattern. Hubs roll on CULT Ceramic bearings and have their oversized rear hub flange with 2:1 lacing.
Internal width is 17mm, intended for tires from 25mm to 50mm wide. The mixed set isn’t listed on their website yet, but based on published weights for the paired sets, we’re estimating 1445g for the clincher and 1245g for tubular. Pricing $2,729 (€2,043) clincher and $2,919 ($2,548) tubular. For disc brakes, there’s still only the 55 tubular pair introduced in September.
