White Rim, near Moab, Utah, is a popular route for cyclists pushing the boundaries of long-distance adventure cycling. According to mapping sites such as MTB Project, the 100-mile route is “best done in 3-5 days with vehicle support.” They also mention that a 4-wheel drive vehicle is required.

What is usually a multiday trip for most cyclists took Hannah Otto just six and a half hours, completely unsupported. The professional mountain biker crushed White Rim in 6:36:51, securing the women’s FKT (fastest known time) by over 13 minutes.

This gives Otto the White Rim FKT and also establishes her at the top of the Moab Triple Crown. That is, until someone comes along and takes it from her.

White Rim Completes Moab’s Triple Crown

With the completion and FKT of White Rim, Otto claims the top spot on what has been dubbed Moab’s Triple Crown. Stretching over 292.95 miles and climbing 30,973 feet, the Moab Triple Crown consists of The Whole Enchilada, the Kokopelli, and the White Rim.

Last year, she set the FKT on the Kokopelli, following up her FKT on The Whole Enchilada two years prior.

Otto and her team dreamt of creating the Moab Triple Crown with her first attempt at The Whole Enchilada in 2022.  Otto hoped to inspire riders to push themselves beyond their limits and try something truly difficult.

2025, White Rim FKT

Otto set the women’s FKT on the 100.3-mile White Rim route at the beginning of May. She completed the route entirely self-supported — with no vehicle following, no aid stations, and no food or water caches. Otto carried every calorie and drop of liquid she consumed on her person or on her bike.

A previous women’s FKT of White Rim was held by Alexis Skarda with a time of 6:52:52. For Otto to beat this time, she would need to average roughly 15 mph over the 100 miles.

Otto broke White Rim into a few sections, tackling one at a time. Completing the route meant climbing 6,814 feet, with the grueling Shafer climb at the end. From mile 85 to mile 90, White Rim climbs 1,500 feet up the canyon walls. While the grade lets up some after mile 90, the remaining ten miles continue to ascend gradually.

In just over six and a half hours, Otto completed the 100-mile White Rim loop. The feat was the culmination of Moab’s Triple Crown, a goal she chased for three years.

As a Pearl iZUMi Pro athlete, Hannah only needed two pieces of kit from PI for the attempt:

PEARL iZUMi Pro Jersey
“The Pro kit gave me the aerodynamics I needed without sacrificing the extra pocket space that kept my nutrition close at hand.” – Hannah Otto

PEARL iZUMi Expedition PRO Bib Shorts (Hannah used an athlete-exclusive version)
The bib’s cargo pockets held 15 Liquid Shots and a CO₂ cartridge for quick refueling and mechanical peace of mind.

2024, Kokopelli Trail

Unsuported on the Kokopelli is a massive undertaking. In many ways, the trail surpasses White Rim, with more than 9,000 feet of additional elevation gain and an additional distance of nearly 40 miles.

The Kokopelli Trail stretches from Moab, Utah, to Loma, Colorado. It stretches 137 miles and climbs 16,148 feet. Otto started her first FKT attempt in the fall, riding the Kokopelli in freezing temperatures, with snow at the top.

Otto faced frozen mountain roads, nasty headwinds, hike-a-bike climbs, and a stop to filter water. And the nasty conditions took their toll, as she missed Kait Boyle’s Kokopelli FKT by nearly 16 minutes.

Six months after her first attempt, Otto tried the Kokopelli again, crushing the former FKT by over an hour. Otto completed the 137-mile, 16,000+ foot Kokopelli in 11:53:30.

2022, The Whole Enchilada

The genesis of the Moab Triple Crown was Otto’s FKT on The Whole Enchilada in 2022. Most know this iconic trail as a massive shuttle descent, where riders can descend over 7,500 feet in nearly 35 miles. However, Otto wasn’t loading in a van and driving to the top.

Otto spent a good portion of her Whole Enchilada FKT attempt climbing 8,011 feet on fireroads. Topping at over 11,200 feet of elevation, she began her descent down singletrack. She crossed through pine and aspen wooded areas, eventually reaching the red rock mesas and canyonlands surrounding Moab.

After 55 miles, Otto established the FKT on The Whole Enchilada in 5:50:38.

The Whole Enchilada, Kokopelli, and White Rim. Nearly 293 total miles and roughly 31,000 feet of elevation. And Otto completed it all in just over a day’s time. Will anyone top her?
