Hunt’s affordable, light 30 Carbon Gravel wheels were such a hit, riders kept taking them deeper off-road. So Hunt did what they do best – they developed a new bigger, wider, even more capable X-Wide version of the carbon wheels to go even further off the beaten track, and all at the same price…
Hunt 35 Carbon Gravel Disc X-Wide tubeless wheels
Hunt says these new Gravel X-Wide wheels are a direct response to riders of their current wheels who wanted an even more capable, modern carbon gravel wheelset. I’m happy to say I have pushed their light carbon gravel wheels a lot further off-road than they may have originally been intended, with great results.
With a 23mm internal width and thick carbon beads for a 30mm overall width, the new wider gravel wheels are optimized for big 700c gravel tires around 35-45mm. Plus their blunt U-shaped profile and beefy 35mm depth promise strength & stiffness for serious off-road riding.
Hunt has some heavy hitters riding their wheels off-road, like former Transcontinental winner Josh Ibbett who will race this year’s Tour Divide on the new Gravel X-Wides, as will elite Dutch cyclocrosser Gosse Van Der Meer who will race them at the next Dirty Reiver.
35 Carbon Gravel Disc X-Wide Tech details
The 1548g disc brake only wheelset offers similar build spec to Hunt’s previous top-level gravel wheelset.
The wide T24/T30 carbon rims feature H-Lock tubeless seats & hooked beads that snap tires easily into place, and 3K weave re-enforced spoke holes. (Minimum recommended tire size is 28mm for the 23mm internal rim.)
The Gravel X-Wide wheels are built up on Hunt’s forged & CNC’ed alloy 4 Season Disc centerlock hubs (6-bolt adapters included), with extra seals of the EZO Japanese bearings & extra fast freehubs.
Hubs get fast 84-point 4.3° hub engagement with 6 pawls & a 28 tooth ring, and a H_Ceramik treatment on the alloy freehub body that resists damage from your cassette. Axles are available for QR, 12mm or 15mm thru-axles and freehub bodies for Shimano, Campy, or SRAM XD driver.
The wheels are built with 24 Pillar butted PSR XTRA aero front & 28 rear conventional J-bend spokes with alloy nipples, and rated for riders up to 115kg (254lb) with bike & gear.
X-Wide Pricing & Availability
The new Hunt 35 Carbon Gravel Disc X-Wide are available for pre-order now for £900 (~$1175/1030€) with the wheels expected to ship from Hunt in the last week of February (about five weeks from today.)
All Hunt wheels include tubeless tape installed, and tubeless valves. Plus, they offer the unique service option of selling you a pair of tubeless tires already installed with sealant for often times less than you could even buy the same tires online. It’s an unbeatable option for anyone hesitant to trying tubeless for the first time.
There should be plenty of time to get a 35 Carbon Gravel X-Wide set ready for the burliest off-road dropbar riding of the upcoming season.
