Now that even many of the less race oriented cross, gravel, and road bikes are headed towards thru axle disc in the rear, Phil Wood is ready. Continuing their tradition of quality components completely made in house, the Pro Model cyclocross hub is getting a thru axle update to match that 15mm front hub…

Previously only offered in a 135mm QR hub, the new 142×12 compatible thru axle model carries the same specs. The old hubs can even be rebuilt into thru axle models if you send them in to Phil Wood. The 6061 aluminum hubs include the new aluminum free body available in Shimano 11s, Campy 11s, and SRAM XD. Sold in 24, 28, and 32h hub configurations, they have a claimed 418g weight and will be anodized in multiple colors. Hubs will be available early next year and they are not accepting pre orders. According to Phil Wood, there are no plans yet for a 12x100mm front hub.

After numerous requests, Phil Wood will soon be releasing their own line of headsets. Details are limited, but the simple looking parts will use sealed bearings and will be available in 1 1/8″ to start.

@really? – I use that TA handle position as extra protection against something hitting my disc (very rocky technical terrain).

There us a risk of if loosening, but I know this and check it if I hear something or have a fall. I never had it bumped loose fwiw.

Are Phil Wood rear hubs more quiet than Chris King rear hubs? Kind headsets will always be king of the headsets.

Chris King sealed headsets were the best in the 90s. Now, everybody has sealed headsets equal to or better than Chris King for a fraction of the price of a Chris King headset. For the absolute best 1 1/8″ headset, it is the Cane Creek 110.

Cane Creek > Chris King
and it’s not even close.
