Having seen growth over the past few years, and with riders like Filippo Pozzato and Robbie McEwen (Katusha), several managers decided the time was right to build a cycling-only company.  The official word is:

Sean van Waes (division manager) and Peter Steenwegen (sales manager) have purchased by management buyout (MBO) the bicycle helmet division of Lazer SA, manufacturer of motorcycle, bicycle and paragliding helmets. The new company, Lazer Sport NV, will be based in Antwerp Belgium. Of course our well-recognized Lazer brand name will be fully retained for the marketing of our great products.  while still marketing helmets under the well recognized brand name “Lazer”.

Lazer was founded in the year 1919 and is the most experienced helmet manufacturing company in the world still in operation. “Our objective has always been to find an excellent synergy between design, comfort and technology,” says Sean van Waes. “We will continue our focus on developing highly valued products.”
