Borrowing the quick-release pneumatically powered arms from their Piston Pro X hitch rack, the new Kuat Piston SR adds a roof tray option.
The Piston SR (for Single Rail) clamps onto any compatible cross bars, including T-track, then holds your bike from the tires, without any risk of scratching your frame or fork. When it’s time to ride or load the bike, just press the OneTap release lever and the arms automatically open for quick escapes.
Like the hitch bike rack, the Piston SR gets Kashima-coated sliders for smooth, durable opening and closing. Wheel Chocks adjust without tools to fit various wheel diameters, with tires up to 5″ and wheelbase up to 53 inches.
The rack has an integrated 10mm (thick) cable lock for light security, pulling out from the end and hooking into the center of the tray.
Rack weight is 22lbs, and capacity is 67lbs, making it perfect for e-bikes (assuming you want to lift those onto your roof). It ships fully assembled, MSRP is $449.
