Even though he’s technically retired now, it was easy to spot Ben Berden’s influence on these new kicks from Lake. Officially the MX130C SuperCross, these lace up, high top cyclocross race boots are intended for colder cross races – or anyone looking for more ankle support for those dismounts and run ups.
Ben has been flashig a custom pair of brown leather MX130Cs on instagram, but it looks like the production boots will be offered in black and white, with a similar vintage style as their CX1/MX1 throwback shoes. Fitted with the same outsole as many of the other Supercross options, the shoe is SPD compatible, has huge replaceable toe cleats, and a large rubber pad in the center of the shoe for pedaling through remounts.
We saw the CX1 earlier this year a Magura camp, but the MX1s were not yet available. Featuring the same throwback look in honor of their first shoe 35 years ago, the shoes are actually fairly affordable at $134.99 – also available in wide.
Cant decide between snow boots, hiking boots, and bike shoes? The new MXZ 200 has you covered. Built with their winter last for better circulation with thick socks, the boot is made from Ecco vegetable tan leather with a waterproof membrane liner and 3M Thinsulate in the toe box. The Vibram Mountain V outsole is both flat and clipless compatible, and laces complete the $249.99 boot.
This MX301 or MX1 Super Endurance was originally whipped up for Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesja, hence the Norwegian flag motif. Essentially a super paired down shoe with just enough tread for XC and marathon racing, Lake sees this as a contender for XC or for the emerging gravel racing market. Details are slim for now, though.
And in honor of all the triathletes converging on Kona as we speak, Lake has a completely reworked tri shoe range. At the top, the TX 322 features a carbon outsole with heat moldable heel cup, NuFoam upper with Trek-Dry antimicrobial liner, and a 40mm velcro strap up top and L6 Boa closure down low at $339.99. The TX 223 is essentially the same shoe minus the Boa closure and the heat moldable heel cup which drops the price to $239.99. The TX 213 moves to a nylon sole with velcro straps for $139.99.
