Our recent post on NY City’s aggressive and commendable bicycle facility growth shows what can be done when a city really gets behind a good program.
Los Angeles, CA, by contrast, shows what happens when the cycling culture is largely ignored or exempted from input and a plan is developed in the dark by a DOT that’s focused on cars alone. Or, so says SoapBox LA.
The LA Bikeway Drafts were sent out only to local council members, not to any of the four local cycling advocacy groups or any of the number of clubs or shops.  It seems as though the LADOT wanted to keep anyone that cared about the plan from actually being able to see and comment on the proposed drafts.
