The all-new Lumos Firefly smart bike light system is completely unique in offering more ways than ever to be seen on the road thanks to its modular, adaptable & connected design – and improved visibility simply by spreading out more lights for other road users to see. Each small individual light can function as a headlight, taillight, brake light, or turn signal depending on what you need. Then, link them together to boost you ‘visibility footprint’. And one of the greatest features of all, they recharge wirelessly with Qi & Magsafe charging standards, so no more proprietary cables!

So we know Lumos mostly for their integrated lighting in the Ultra helmet (now also available with MIPS) and even before that in other commuter gear. But now with Firefly, Lumos have pulled the smart lighting out to great what they describe as the “Ultimate Bike Light System“. What you get is a single small light that magnetically mounts to your bike wherever you are looking to boost visibility – handlebar, bar ends, seatpost – and can shine bright & flash in either white, red, or yellow depending on what you need.
And since the lights are smart and connected, you can run a setup with anywhere from 1-10 lights all over you bike (or even more) and program them all from your phone to determine which act as headlights, taillights, brake lights, or turn signals. You can control their function with the smartphone app, but you can also activate turn signals with a wireless remote, or even sync them with your Lumos Ultra helmet.
In fact, if you are riding with other people that also have Lumos Firefly lights or their helmets, the lights can synchronize their flashing patterns in Team Sync mode to improve your visibility to other road users.
Tech details
Each little IPX6 waterproof Lumos Firefly light is <30g packing a 500mAh rechargeable battery inside for a max 35hr runtime (5hr on hi-viz mode). And if you have one run out of battery during a ride, you can quickly swap them around & change their functions to fill in any gap in your night riding visibility.
They recharge in 3-4hr wirelessly on the Lumos charging cradle or a Qi charging pad. They also automatically turn off if they don’t move for an extended period.
Each Firefly comes with a standard universal rubber & velcro strap mounting bracket, and the light itself snaps securely into place with a magnetic clasp. There are also option Turn Signal Mounts (front or rear) that hold

Lumos doesn’t list an official lumen output of the roughly 4cm square LED lights as it varies depending on color, pattern, and number of synced lights. But they describe the Firefly as “bright enough to make YOU visible from at least half a mile away at night”
Lumos Firefly lights – Pricing, options & availability
The Lumos Firefly lights are available to pre-order only on Kickstarter now. But I wouldn’t worry too much about whether your crowdfunding support will turn into a real product. Lumos has used several successful Kickstarter campaigns to get other products off the ground. And they raised 23x their goal of $25k in the first 24 hours of this campaign, so have already kicked this one into gear.
Kickstarter deals start as low as $29 for one light (without their charger cradle), $38 for one with the charger, $64 for a pair, $90 for a trio, $115 for a quartet, $165 for a sextet, $215 for an octet, $265 for a decade of 10 lights with a charging cradle. Also thanks to popular demand, Lumos has added deals on their existing smart lighting helmets for backers who want to add-on a fully connected visibility system.
The Lumos Firefly Kickstarter is live now through mid-October, with production starting later this year for anticipated deliveries starting in Feb/Mar 2023.
