Kraftwerk was a pioneer in electronica, so it’s no stretch to see this custom painted and extremely limited Canyon CF SLX Ultimate road bike equipped with SRAM eTap. The retro electronic paint theme pays homage to the band, tying in both inspiration for Canyon’s CEO from their music and the fact that this year’s Tour de France’s Grand Departe rolls out of Dusseldorf, where Kraftwerk’s early recordings were made at Kling Klang studios.
Only 21 will be made, one for each stage of Le Tour, and all will go on sale for €10,000 starting Monday, July 3, 2017.
The geometric pattern is designed and finished by band founder Ralf Hütter, who’s reportedly quite the cycling fan. It’s not actually paint, but rather hand cut reflective tape applied over seven hours (per frame) to get it just right.
Each bike will come in a custom Canyon Bike Guard case with a “celebratory commemorative pack” included. Look for TT world champ Tony Martin to roll off the Stage One start ramp on a Canyon Speedmax SLX time trial bike bearing the same design.
