Cipollini… “Cipo” as we will refer to him for the rest of this press release, has been a controversial personality of the pro cycling circuit for the better part of two decades spanning from the late 80s to the early 2000s.
Super Mario was a force to be reckoned with during the last meters of any given Spring classic of the era. His light-hearted, albeit egotistical tomfoolery during his time at the top was sure fun to watch.
What wasn’t fun to watch, was his womanizing, which we were reminded of lately, as Cipo was convicted of domestic abuse in October 2022.
But, let’s talk about the bike I guess, since Mario Cipollini has now released an electric gravel bike in the new Fybra GX model.
The Cipollini Fybra GX
The Fybra is the second electric bike in the collection following the Flusso. The Fybra comes in the GX variant (gravel) and the R (road), the 700c-designed GX version is the first electric gravel bike in the MCipollini line.
According to the press release, “Thanks to a HiRide AR 1.5 suspension, (horribly named, yet seems purposeful) integrated into the design with 18mm of travel, the bike allows for a spirited ride that winks at the MTB routes” (as it passes them?).
The carbon fork on the Fybra GX is “optimized for specific off-road discs”. Those off-road sizes, according to MCipollini are the 160mm (widely used on all carbon gravel forks) and the 180mm, which they say “allows for safe braking in all situations”.
The Fybra GX also comes with a wireless RockShox Reverb AX dropper post that can be operated from the shift levers. Both of the gravel GX and the road R models use the same monocoque frame with TCM technology “which allows for continuity in the carbon fibers”.
Both models are equipped with the same Polini EP3+ EVO motor which they claim is at the top of its category in terms of “output quality”. The included power indicator and the display are color as well.
These bikes come with some theft protection built right in with the self-powered, integrated GPS locator that is ‘hidden’ in the frame. They both have integrated lights that are powered directly from the eBike. The Polini 500Wh battery boasts a “guaranteed long distance of up to 220km.”
