MET Manta MIPS Aero Road Helmet
That last iteration of the MET Manta was one designed specifically for the Manx Missile, Mark Cavendish. For 2021, the shape gets a significant update. Following wind tunnel tests at the Newton Laboratory of Milan, this road lid gets a lower and tube-shaped profile at the rear, now more aerodynamic than ever. And it’s safer.
Safety technology comes in the form of MIPS-C2 rotational impact protection system. Now a common safety feature on many road and mountain bike helmets alike, the MIPS liner permits 10-15mm of movement upon impact. That dissociates rotational forces experienced by the helmet from movement of the rider’s head, helping to prevent concussion injury.
With safety and aerodynamics taken care of, the new MET Manta MIPS also packs in everything you might expect from a high-end road helmet; a magnetic Fidlock closure said to effectively reduce triathlon transition times, 15 vents with internal air flow designed to minimize drag, and two ports for docking sunglasses.
With internals taken from the MET Trenta 3K Carbon, the Manta MIPS gets a 360° head belt meant to result in no pressure points on the skull. The fitment system can be adjusted vertically to suit different head shapes, while adjustable cam dividers ensure all riders can position the divider correctly; directly underneath the ear lobe.
