Pacific Cycle’s Mode folding bicycle, designed by Mark Sanders, has won a Gold design award from the International Forum, a prestigious outfit that’s been handing out kudos since 1953.  More than 2,800 products from 39 countries competed for design awards, but only 50 were given Gold awards.  This is the first folding bicycle to ever win a Gold, and it also won a EuroBike award in 2008.

Check out the other Gold winners here.  Read more about this bike in a recent Bikerumor post.

Here’s some IF MODE trivia:

The prototype IF MODE that Pacific Cycles brought to Eurobike in 08 was stolen from the show. Pacific Cycles was so nervous about the same thing happening at InterBike that they wouldn’t ship the bike ahead. As a result, the bike was not displayed on the convention floor the first day of InterBike 08 because the reps from Pacific were still en route from Taiwan. And when they left the show later in the week, the bike went with them.

Even right now, there is not a single IF MODE in the USA but that’s partly because Pacific is doing the official release of the bike at the big Taipei show next week.
