Established in 2021, Mooncool is an eTrike brand that, judging by its fluffy generic “about” section on its website, is promoting a “free and healthy lifestyle”. They look to have seven models of eTrikes that are available for sale. But let’s touch base on their two latest versions: the FT1 fat tire eTrike and the TK2 eTrike.

Both of these models include folding mechanisms at the bottom of the down tube – although from the looks of it, the folding feature may be more for the initial shipping purposes than actual use (more on that below). They both come in six colors and come in at sub $1,500.
Let’s get into some details on the two trikes.
FT1 Electric Trike
Retail: $1,299 (“reduced from $1,899”)

The FT1 eTrike is for riders seeking stable, comfortable transportation with some electric assistance. The fat-tire tricycle sports a 500W hub motor that has a claimed peak of 1092W.

This should be enough power to handle hills and heavy loads. The trike can accommodate riders between 5′ and 6’3″ tall and can support up to 400 pounds total. This makes it accessible for a wide range of riders, including seniors and those with mobility considerations.

It uses a 48V 14.5Ah lithium battery with a claimed 35-60 miles of range which takes 7-9 hours to charge. Additionally, the trike arrives “90% assembled” and includes practical features like front and rear storage baskets.

It also sports a parking brake for stopping/parking on inclines. The 20″ x 4″ fat tires are designed to handle various terrain types, although I’m not sure how far in the dirt I would take this trike.

The oversized foam seat includes a backrest for couch-like riding comfort. While the low-step frame design makes mounting and dismounting easier. Note that the non-folding stem and high rise bars will make it less compact than the TK2 when folded.

Additional features include a 7-speed Shimano drivetrain, mechanical disc brakes, LED lighting with horn function, and an LCD display. The FT1 has three assistance levels and comes with a one-year warranty. and is available in six color options.
TK2 Electric Trike
Retail: $1,499 (reduced from $2,099)

The Mooncool TK2 is a folding eTrike that features some performance. It uses a 48V 500W motor that produces up to 1092W peak power and 65Nm torque. It can reach speeds of 15.5 mph, and offers a claimed 35-60 mile range from its 48V 15Ah removable lithium battery.

The trike accommodates riders between 5′-6’3″ and supports up to 450 pounds. And like the FT1, it is accessible for a wide range of users, such as seniors and those seeking a stable mobility option.

The TK2 focuses heavily on comfort and practical features. It includes a comfy foam seat with an adjustable backrest designed to prevent numbness and lower back soreness during longer rides.

The TK2 comes with a 3.5-inch color display that shows speed, battery life, range, and assist levels. The Trike features a rear differential mechanism that helps with stability during turns, while the 40mm suspension fork smooths out bumps. The cool reverse mode feature allows riders to back out of tight spaces without dismounting or struggling to turn around – a critical feature for those with mobility issues.

The front and rear baskets offer ample storage options. Additionally, the TK2 can fold down to 39.4″ x 30.3″ x 29.5″ for transport or storage, though it’s not clear if that size requires removal of the front basket. The equipped hydraulic disc brakes include bright red taillights that activate when braking for added safety and visibility.

Like the FT1, the TK2’s assembly is easy, as it comes 90% pre-built as well. The TK2 includes free shipping and comes with a one-year warranty. Check out more at the link below.
How much does this folding trike actually fold?
Conspicuously, there is very little information on the Mooncool website about the folding feature. On the TK1 page, there is one small photo of the trike folded up which appears to require removal of the front wheel in order to get it into its most compact form. Videos online show that when you go to fold it without taking out the front wheel, the front wheel and basket hit the rear wheel and prevent it from folding very compactly.
The same videos also give us the only expectation of the weight of one of these trikes: roughly 94lbs. That brings up an important point – even if you take out the front wheel and fold this trike as small as possible, its intended user will probably not be able to get it into a vehicle without some help.
The folding feature undoubtedly helps Mooncool to ship it in a smaller box which helps keep the cost down. Just don’t expect the folding feature to greatly help transport or store one of these trikes. The TK2 with its folding stem can be made more compact to possibly fit inside a vehicle like a van or truck bed, but it appears to require the removal of the front wheel and likely a team lift of two able-bodied people to move it.
