Built to showcase Mopar’s factory-authorized accessories and upgrades, this “Top Dog” Jeep Gladiator concept uses a mix of aftermarket and Jeep parts. The goal? Turn the four door truck into an extreme offroad vehicle for mountain bikers.

Built on Jeep’s truck platform, the bed is replaced with a custom PCOR flatbed tray and full-length canopy storage system. But that’s only the beginning…

The canopy provides a spot for the roof trays, and ample storage:

The passenger side has a power management system and switches for the external lights. On the other side is a fridge and slide-out grill, perfect for post-ride hangouts. Behind that is a larger open area for gear, wheels, pump, etc.

Sliding drawers and hidden doors add more storage without wasting any space. Perfect place for the folding ladder used to get the bikes onto the roof.

Ground clearance is improved with a JPP two-inch lift kit, FOX shocks, and 17-inch JPP beadlock-capable aluminum wheels with 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 mud-terrain tires. Concept steel “high-top” fender flares give them a little more breathing room.

Inside is a custom painted dash panel to match the exterior’s “K-9 Blue”, with matching blue stitching offsetting the black Katzkin leather seats, armrests, shifter boots, steering wheel and the parking brake handle.

Mopar stainless-steel pedal covers with black rubber pads and Mopar all-weather floor mats put the finishing touches on the cabin.

Other features & modifications include:

  • Custom concept hood
  • JPP Rubicon Bumper w/ concept 2″ diameter steel grill guard
  • JPP rock rails w/ custom 2″ steel tubes under doors
  • Front JPP 8,000-lb-capacity Rubicon Warn winch w/ Spydura synthetic rope
  • Rear JPP Warn winch
  • JPP snorkel
  • Front-facing JPP five-inch off-road LED lights

How much would this vehicle cost?

Our back of the napkin math suggests it’s easily north of $80k. Base price for a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon (Overland 4×4 model) sits around $40k, and the PCOR tray plus canopy adds about $25k. Figure a couple grand each for lift kit+shocks, wheels+tires, bumper+rock guards, and the winches, and you can see how it adds up quickly. Very quickly.

It’s a highly capable off-road vehicle, but what’s “for mountain bikers” about this truck? Mountain bikers with only one friend, and a tiny little package they need to compensate for maybe? It’s got two bog-standard Yakima roof mount racks on it, just like every other over-accessorised monstrosity that will probably rarely leave the blacktop. Good luck with those racks lasting if you actually do any serious off-roading with bikes on. That cute little folding ladder in its padded jewellery case doesn’t look like it will be that much use for loading big bikes on the roof either. If you can’t fit at least one bike for every seat in the vehicle, it’s a vehicle for posers not bikers.
There are so many good bike customisations out there, why show us this dross?

No mountain bikers were consulted in the design of this contraption. Epic fail.

I drove a Tacoma for 17 years. Considering how I mostly ride road now, I can mostly say that the Tacoma was during my MTB phase.

Was waiting for where the bed was, yup, not got one, pointless machine replaceable by a cooler and camp stove.

I don’t think it’s terrible! Swap the bikes for a rooftop tent and a 4 bike OneUp rack off the back so the tree branches don’t rip them off, and you’ve got something. I’d still put all that money into a TRD off road though. Stick to rock crawling Jeep.

Real MTBers drive a 1.2 litre hatchback that is worth less than 1/4 of the value of the bike that’s on the roof
