Bilenky Cycle Works Wonder Woman steel track bike

Wonder Woman Bike painted in house by Naomi, who, along with the customer, has a real thing for the Amazonian super hero.

Fork matches the super hero’s boots, and the frame is a mix of Mylar chrome strips with regular and metallic paint, plus hand cut reflective vinyl star decals, all protected by a clear coat. Originally quoted around $600 for custom paint, they went a little crazy: Steven Bilenky said the paint scheme is valued around $3,500.

The bike itself is a classic steel track bike using ~30 year old French Prugnat lugs with Columbus SL tubing. Check all the glorious details after the break, along with pics of their winning lugged frame and more…

Their city bike was very well equipped, featuring just about every amenity you’d want to get around town in style and with gear.

Do you think they could fit anything else in? Shift cables, brake hose, rocker dropouts and small rear light wiring loops all share space with brake, fender and rack mounts. Oh my!

This frame won for “Best Lugged Frame”. Every lug was hand cut, and there were a lot of details on them.

I love Bilenky, but it always amazes me when a builder puts in such amazing attention to detail only to finish off the bar tape with a few wraps of black electrical tape.

It equally amazes me that someone would bitch about the tiniest detail, of seemingly no significance…Would you have preferred ….???

– NAHBS is about the tiniest details, and the fact that they’re tiny and still given attention is why they’re significant. Anything other than black electrical tape would demonstrate the same attention given elsewhere – a nice wrap of thread, the ol’ super glue trick that requires no tape whatsoever, unique ribbon, whatever. Although you could misinterpret my comment as bitching, that wasn’t my intent. My point was, if I were the builder, and I’d devoted myself to a bike like this, that black electrical tape doesn’t fit – it isn’t craftsmanship at the same level as the rest of the bike. And that’s surprising.

@ABW Are you a builder?

ABW, you know not of which you speak. The handlebars have what look like lights on the ends, which are black plastic. So it’s not without reason to finish the other end of the tape in black as well. Plus the brake lever is black. And if you want to get picky, the chainring and tires are black as well – which easily could have been a different color. There is a thread of black on the bike, black finishing tape works just fine.

Black tape is good enough for Sven. This makes all your arguments invalid.

@Scott – do I need to be a builder to know how to wrap bars?

The most motley looking rocker group of builders turning out frames at the absolute top of the game. Love em’

Think the black electrical tape is cunningly used to remind people that the bikes are actually built to be ridden. If it was not there we would likely just keep staring till it was nightfall. Wake up and repeat.

XOXO

Can’t seem to find a price range on these bikes. Does anyone have a website address where I could get a general idea of what a regular one person bike would cost?
