NAHBS 2010 – Ever wonder what a man who builds frames and components would build and ride himself? Pictured here is Chris King’s personal road bike, and it’s pretty sweet. Sure Cielo makes fairly straightforward frames with few if any frills, but the devil’s in the details, and the closer you look, the sweeter this bike becomes.
Besides the owner’s ride, Cielo had some new colors on display for 2010 and their entry into the Oregon Manifest’s Constructor’s Challenge. Check it all out after the jump…
The colors for 2010 are Cielo Blue, Oyster White, Galaxy Black, Transit Gray, Fall Orange and Jade Green. Any of their bikes are available in any of these shades.
For King’s personal bike, the lugs and headset received a special bronzed finish, and parts of the frame (like the headtube) are unpainted, instead using a special treatment to get the brown color. This same method creates the brown in the logo on the downtube and seat tube (below).
The Cielo cyclocross bike received a good bit of attention, and not just for the frame. Notice anything different and new?
It was rockin’ a brand new Courage bash guard on the Ultegra cranks. The guard shown is a spraypainted SLA (plastic) rapid prototype with the goal to have it ready for purchase (in metal, natch) by June…if it goes into production. Price point would be about $125 to $150, and if you want one, contact Aaron at Courage and encourage him to actually make it.
Not too often you see a mix of Shimano and SRAM components on a road bike. Adjustment screws help set axle position and allow the bike to be run both geared and single speed (or fixed if ‘cross just isn’t punishment enough).
With an eye towards year-round use and/or the ‘crosser that doesn’t want to get too muddy, fender attachments are standard.
Cielo’s entry to the Constructor’s Challenge (more on that event here and here) wasn’t in the running for prizes since they were a sponsor of the event, but that didn’t stop King and Jay Sycip from building one heck of a utility bike.
Integrated cable lock? Yes, please.
Color-matched frame pump, bottls and fenders make us smile. Somehow, they pull it off without being too matchy-matchy-poo-poo.
Army green rucksack bags complete the look.
Another bike that’s been getting a lot of attention is their 29er. They showed a version with S&S Couplers at Interbike that people were pretty excited about, and apparently it’s been selling well. And to think, they weren’t even sure they wanted to build a 29er when they started…
What better way to showcase the Chris King Inset Headset?
