Nike is getting back into cycling shoes, at least partially, with the new SuperRep Cycle indoor cycling shoes. Debuted at a time when more cyclists are riding inside to stay fit, the SuperRep Cycle shoes are designed to be exceptionally light & airy, and are unique in their ability to work with either road or MTB style pedals.

Nike says they created these new bike shoes to round out their larger indoor training SuperRep family. There’s already the Nike Air Zoom SuperRep for indoor high-intensity interval training (HIIT) & other high-paced indoor workouts, and the Nike SuperRep Go for lower-intensity indoor fitness classes, both with super light, super ventilated upper construction. Now, Nike SuperRep Cycle offers the same for cycling on indoor trainers too.

Tech details

Breathability is the core function of the new indoor training shoes, from a ‘perforated sockliner’, to the mostly mesh upper, to vents under the pedal plate. But shoes are also built to be stable on the bike inside (and also off the bike). Little real tech detail on stiffness is available.

But it appears that they use a partial molded plate just under the forefoot to transfer power to the pedals, with a lighter overall construction that probably has little torsional stiffness for higher power outputs.

The apparently translucent upper is mostly constructed of shaped synthetic mesh upper with heat-welded on reinforcements around the toe & heal to give it more structure and support.

Then, an extra ‘support arc’ on the outside of the shoe next to your smallest toe lets you cinch down the forefoot strap for a secure fit over the pedal axle. A second velcro strap pulls laterally across the top of the tongue to keep your heel in place.

Interestingly, the shoe uses an adaptable cleat insert plate to work with both three-bolt road and 2-bolt mountain bike style pedals. The included steel cleat bolt plate has both fixed 3-bolt threads, and sliding SPD thread insert. Rubber tread blocks on the heel & toe should make them decently walkable, although that will depend a lot on what cleat you bolt on.

Those red ones would be a sweet design for flat pedal shoes. I would sport them instantly

Loyal Nike fan here- Just want to help those out who are curious to know if these will work with Shimano cleats and pedals for out door use; They will. I use the yellow cleat. I have put a few hundred miles in and love them. If you elect to buy, try not to over torque the screws and possibly compromised the bottom plate in the shoe. Nike should address this in their next design.

Also, I wear an 8 in most Nike’s. However I went with an 8.5 here, good to go half size up.

Is it possible to get the cleat plate that goes in the shoe? Unfortunately mine didn’t come in the box with the shoe and I contacted Nike and they didn’t understand that the shoe came with the plate as it’s not mentioned in the product description.

Having the same issue….didn’t have the plate attachments in box….Nike wasn’t much help. Did you have any luck getting them?

I had the same issue, the 3 screw plate attachment was already under the insole and the 2 piece spd attachment was in the bag on its own. I kept seeing videos and photos with both plates inside but the 3 screw was already in place.
