Prevelo has become one of my favorite booths at the Sea Otter Classic. They always have new components designed for kids, and their stoke for getting youth on bikes is contagious.
For 2023 the kid-centric brand rolled new models and some larger (26″ wheeled) bikes. They also showcased updated components and carbon accessories, available soon to bling out your kiddos’ ride.
Prevelo Bikes — Updated Designs
Several updated frame designs were at the Prevelo booth for Sea Otter Classic. The one that stuck out the most to me was the updated Alpha. The Alpha is the all-arounder bike from Prevelo. It’s capable of dirt, road, gravel, and so on.
Prevelo Alpha Two
The Alpha Two received a very cool seatpost update, making it much easier for small riders.
The design is similar to a BMX seat and post combo but maximizes the amount of the post that can enter the frame. Prevelo had to redesign their seatpost clamps to get the proper clearance.
The result is a slammed seatpost that allows a child to grow into the bike and get the most use of the frame.
Prevelo Alpha Three – Four – Five
As for the Alpha Three, Four, and Five, the frame is notably different, with an extra bit of tire clearance and compliance in the rear.
Pervelo designs the frames so it’s easier for kids to get on/off the bikes and feel confident while pedaling. This new frame design and some very new electric colorways look to accomplish that.
Larger Tires — Prevelo Zulu Five
Previously the Prevelo sizing maxed out at a 24″ wheeled bike. Now they are moving into 26″ land, and the bikes are getting more serious. The new Prevelo Zulu Five is the newest addition to the brand lineup. It is the first 26″ mountain bike they have offered.
The bike is very close in appearance to its brethren in Zulu, but the addition of 26″ wheels opens up more possibilities for tires, forks, and rims.
The Zulu Five (and others) roll on WTB tubeless STi rims, Kenda Regolith Pro 2.40″ tires, and more to offer.
Hier Components — Carbon Upgrades
Prevelo has an in-house component line, Heir. They offer aftermarket kid-fit cranksets, handlebars pedals, and other accessories. Previously the components were only offered alloy and different anodized color offerings.
For 2023 Prevelo is stepping it up and offering a carbon crankset (145mm) that works in many frames.
They are also venturing into the handlebar category, releasing a carbon bar with 19mm grips, feature designers found needing to be improved in the cockpit world.
In addition to the carbon bars, Hier will offer aftermarket 19mm lock-on grips, perfect for young riders.
Updated Spec
As for updated specs, Prevelo is moving away from the Radius line of brake sets and starting to spec TekTro brake systems on their bikes. The Prevelo team liked the robust design of the TekTro and the limited need to service.
