Pulse Jet Powered Bicycle Insanity

If it’s not pulse jets, then it’s rockets. The slightly more mental tinkerers have been strapping various engines to their bikes for awhile now. The latest pulse jet powered shenanigans come from Colin Furze, a British garage inventor/video maker. After chopping up an old Raleigh, the frame was extended and a propane powered pulse jet was added.

Jump past the break to see how it was built and the jet bike in action!

Part 1: How to build a Massive Pulse Jet without a tubing roller

Part 2: First Test

From Colin: So here is the first fire up of the massive jet I’ve made. The spark generator broke after the first attempt but it seems you don’t need one on a jet this big just light it with a blow torch n shove ya leaf blower in it BOOM. As you can see it doesn’t really come to life until its ran on liquid gas then its runs away hehe.

Part 3: Making the Pulse Jet Bike (above, 1st)

Part 4: Ride It!

BTW: I think the Germans lobbed those at the Brits during Dubya,Dubya,Eye,Eye in the form of
V-1 Doodlebugs. Love the way the propane tank is wedged in between the cherry red pulse tubes. Can we say “human guided bike blivvy missile”.

I’m glad to see he wears a tie for all of the field tests. He’s such a nice boy.

@Harry, the pulse jet may have come from the V1 but this is really more like a Baka http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokosuka_MXY7_Ohka which was a Japanese human piloted bomb.
I’m glad people like this still exist despite the UK nanny state’s attempts to crush all excitement under PC and H&S.
