Scott Quiring, builder and founder of Quiring Cycles, has added a KVA stainless steel build option for his mountain bikes.
The first frame to take advantage is this custom (they’re all custom, actually) 29er hardtail for Matt over at Rock ‘n’ Road Cycle. The frame uses Paragon Machine Works dropouts and has modern fixtures like a 44mm headtube with suspension corrected geometry, BB30 bottom bracket and disc brake tabs.
Scott says he’s switching to KVA for the stainless builds, particularly for mountain bikes, because they recently started offering off-road specific tubes. That, and they’re US-based, which makes getting materials quicker and easier, and keeps the business here in the states.
Prices start at $1,800 and this one’s frame weight is 1,735g. More pics after the break…
Why stainless? It carries the same mechanical properties as regular steel tubing but doesn’t require painting or coating to prevent rust and corrosion. That saves up to 200g per frame.
Those material properties make it great for winter riding in Quiring’s home state of Michigan…which is why he’s also building Fat/Snow Bikes from the material, too.
