The 2020 Tour de France won’t take place this July on French roads, but that doesn’t mean you need to miss out on the racing action. Set to debut a month before the real race was originally set to hit the road, Tour de France 2020 is a new video game for Xbox, PS4 & PC that puts you in the peloton, fighting for the yellow jersey and the coveted sprint up the Champs-Élysées.

The new cycling video game follows the path of popular sports titles that get updated each season with the top athletes & teams like FIFA, Madden NFL, NBA, NHL & Fortnite (fine… one of those doesn’t really belong). You don’t need to be the fastest person on the bike, maybe you just need to hone your hand-eye coordination and work on tactics.

With uncertainty for the running of this year’s Tour De France (it’s been postponed until Aug29-Sept20, for the time being), fans of the biggest race in cycling find a vacuum of no team or rider news, and even little in the way of tech previews. So, that’s where this official Tour De France video game comes in.

French game developed Cyanide Studios and publisher Nacon imagine you virtually recreating the iconic race at home, either from a computer or gaming console to get the immersive experience of the Tour peloton, and if you do well the “thrill and suspense” of virtually holding onto the yellow jersey.

With this new first-person camera, the game let you become a real pro cyclist with a highly-realistic perspective. Breakaways, steep slopes and high-speed sprints will be more staggering than ever this year…. You’ll be able to dive into the Pro Leader mode where you’ll have to create your rider, choose their specialization, get better results over the seasons to ultimately become the leader of the Pro Cycling ranking.

For now, we just get a preview of some of the first-person gameplay, and will have to wait for more details… Tour De France 2020 is set to launch officially June 4, 2020 for PlayStation 4 & Xbox One consoles, with the PC version coming soon after to Steam.

At first, I thought this was a training app, and the combination of content, graphics, and availability on game consoles seemed interesting. Riding/racing AI on shortened Tour stages could be a fun way to train during the stay at home. Now that I realize it’s nothing like that, I don’t think I’m part of their target market. Hopefully it sells well and leads to more exposure for cycling.

Pro cycling manager has been around for ages. Its really a niche market to be sure.

Ok, I am gamer and a cyclist. That said, this game looks horribly boring and the graphics are terrible! Do you press two buttons for hours simulating pedaling? I guess I’ll give this a try when it drops to 15 dollars. If anyone has played previous titles, please chime in here.

if its anything like the old pro cycling manager PC game, you set effort levels for your riders, tell them when to attack, manage their energy supplies with bottles. More like being in the team car than on the bike.

Ok that could be fun. More of a sim/strategy game? I am into that.

Fine I’ll be the optimist here. I’m not a gamer but this looks down right interesting. Hopefully it’s not just a push two buttons for hours to simulate pedaling but more of a thought provoking immersion where each decision made by the rider or the team manager affects the outcome.

Ok ok, ill out myself here as the nerd who’s played every single TDF for PS4 rendition since 2017. I’ve spent hours building my personal rider, getting enough skill points to Win Paris Roubaix. The Pro League lets you build a dream team so long as your custom team has earned enough $$ and rider points from the season before. As an example you can have Froome and Sagan on the same team and then target the races you want to win. There is a Fast Forward option which is used every stage or race at some point. Bottom line if you’re a cycling fan and a gamer go for it. I’ve never paid full pop, I always wait for the sale price.

It would be cool if this could be gutted to work with a smart trainer. Basically simulate actual racing or group rides with bots. The problem with Zwift racing is that it’s just balls to the wall the whole freaking time. There’s no, 2 or three riders going up the road and people marking attacks it just becomes a big ITT.
