ENVE is a name synonymous with high-performance carbon fibre wheelsets. The Utah-based operation has been manufacturing carbon-rimmed wheels and cockpit parts for years, and has sponsored notable professional road cycling teams such as Dimension Data and United Healthcare Pro Cycling. ENVE doesn’t mind getting dirty, and slotting alongside their road product line up is a comprehensive selection of carbon-rimmed wheelsets for mountain bikes.
Gravel cycling / all-road cycling / whatever the latest nomenclature is, hasn’t been forgotten by ENVE. But rather than compromise with a reconstituted mountain bike rim in an effort to build their version of the perfect gravel / all-road wheelset, ENVE released the G23. Where possible, I like to race the bikes and wheelsets I review, and what better opportunity than to race a G23 wheelset at the 2018 Dirty Kanza 200 gravel race?!
Meant for 32-40mm tires, the wheels have a 23mm internal channel with ENVE’s Wide Hookless Bead which is said to help prevent pinch flats.
Our sample set was built with DT Swiss 240 CL hubs and came in at 1292g for the set which is under the 1305g claimed. Pricing starts at $2,800 as shown.
