Ride for Ukraine is a humanitarian initiative led by indoor bike training company ROUVY.
The campaign is open to anyone with a ROUVY account, compatible smart bike trainer, and pair of wheels. The company pledges one euro for every cyclist that completes a short virtual ride around Kyiv and will channel all Ride for Ukraine proceeds to UNICEF.
ROUVY responds to Ukraine crisis
The effort is a direct response to the invasion and bombing of Ukraine by Russian forces this week.
“Ukraine is now reporting dozens of civilian and military casualties,” explained Yuriy Ryashko, a Ukrainian national and ROUVY employee. “The attack is a heavy blow to the Ukrainian economy and infrastructure, both of which it will take years to restore, not to mention that it is now impossible to predict how long the conflict will last.”
In a press release issued Feb. 25, the brand’s CEO Petr Samek explained:
“We estimate that no less than EUR 25,000 in humanitarian aid will be sent to people in Ukraine. We have tested this form of helping people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic… The present appeal is distributed to our entire community, which includes approximately 900,000 cyclists around the world. We consider it important to let ROUVY users know our stance regarding the war in Ukraine.”
