It’s been something like 30 years since the last Ritchey Ultra was released. Mountain bikes have changed drastically since then, but Ritchey is still alive and well. While the bike is still made from steel Ritchey Logic tubing, the similarities end there.

The 2019 Ultra is a thoroughly modern hardtail with the tire clearance and hub fitment to prove it. Designed around a 120mm travel suspension fork, the frame offers clearance for 27.5 x 2.8″ or 29 x 2.4″ wheels and tires.

Out back, you’ll find a 148 x 12mm thru axle with a replaceable stainless steel derailleur hanger. On the other chain stay is a set of post mount brake tabs.

Most of the cable routing is external, though there is a provision for an internally routed dropper post that tucks into the seat tube near the bottom bracket. Headset duties are handled by a 1.5″ tapered Drop In headset in the forged and machined head tube that is fitting for the Ritchey look.

A threaded bottom bracket completes the spec, with compatibility with 1x or 2x drivetrains.

Offered only in Sierra Slate, the frames will be available in  S (15″), M (17″), and L (19″), and will sell for $999 each.

Any word on geometry?

Your brakes better have banjos with this frame. Mechanical brakes are out as well. Not really a huge downside, but something to consider. Looks good!

Sweet. What size sells more: S or XL? Why no XL?

They appear to have XLs if you follow the link to their website.

Love. It.
Good looking, versatile, and progressive without being overly trendy. Bet you’d get more trailhead compliments and keep it longer than most carbon hardtails on the market.

Ritchey website says 30.9 Ø seat post. PDF says 27.2Ø might need to fix that @RitcheyDesign

What’s the axle to crown designed at? There’s quite a lot of variation between 27.5 and 29 120mm forks.
