Salsa’s popular gravel bike handlebars, the Cowbell Carbon and much wider Cowchipper Carbon, are being recalled for a potential breaking hazard. They say the bars could crack and break where the brake levers clamp on to them, creating a fall and/or crash hazard.
The recalled bars were sold as aftermarket parts and also installed on some 2019 through 2021 Salsa Cutthroat, Warbird, and Warroad bikes, some of those being sold in 2018. Affected handlebars have the model name located on the front of hte handlebar on the non-drive side area adjacent to the stem clamp (next to the “Salsa Cycles” text, so it may be under your bar tape)
Full details are on their website along with contact info, definitely check to see if your bike is affected, but also contact Salsa to check if your aftermarket bar is part of the recall, too. If you have one of these bars, stop riding it now and take it to your local Salsa dealer for a free replacement in your choice of carbon or alloy.
