2013 is the year of the 650B mountain bike. A myriad of companies are rolling them out and Scapin‘s right with them. Three models are molded for the 27.5″ wheels, the full suspension Morgan (shown above), and two front suspension builds — the Hektor and Novak.
The carbon Morgan weighs in at 1985g for the frame and gets internal brake and gear cable routing with external fluid routing. An alu rear axle is offset 100mm with 12 x 142mm spacing. Rear dropouts and some other componentry are machined anodized aluminum, in red, the same color as equipped on that high end road build Scapin released earlier this year. They’ve concealed much of the rear shock absorber in the frame and it’s fitted with a choice of Rock Shox or Fox Float shocks, a Shimano XTR groupset, and Stans Notubes ZTR Crest 650B wheels.

Scapin’s completely behind the 650B trend. They haven’t updated any of their 26″ frames for 2013 and are pumping most of their mtb effort into 650B. That’s reflected in their latest press release -“the right lightness, the right flow of the wheel, geometries suited for everybody and most of all, an excellent manageability of the head set even on hard or narrow slopes: these are the advantages of a 27.5” wheel.” So the Hektor should reflect that. A carbon body with a slightly curved seat tube hits the scale at 1120g and rolls on Stans NoTubes ZTR Crest. Released in 3 colors, they’ll offer a choice of Rock Shox or Fox Float for suspension, Ritchey WCS components, and groupsets from Shimano, SRAM and FSA.
The Novak is 6061 aluminum and frame weight is 1850g. They’re offering cheaper build options on the Novak, and a choice of fancy stuff too, like what’s on the Hektor.
