We’ve seen a few different crowdfunded smart lights from See.Sense, both for the front & back of your bike. See.Sense Beam self-adjusting headlight & Icon2 lights
See Sense has already brought their smart bike lights to Kickstarter three times before. In fact, their last light the ACE lays claim to being the most backed bike light ever on Kickstarter. And that project funded last fall, was shipped out to backers this past September.
These new lights take it a step further with the smart Beam headlamp now lighting up the road so you can see to ride at night, and both the Beam & updated Icon2 packing more power and smarter functionality so you will be seen by others night & day.
See.Sense Beam smart front light
Beam is a completely new light for See Sense, putting 700 lumens of CREE LED light on the road to illuminate your way at night. It is a light specifically developed in response to their customer request for something to light the way, versus all of See Sense’s other visibility lights. But more than just a simple headlight, See Sense put their smart lighting ideas to the Beam with its all-new Smart Brightness Management.
That means the Beam automatically adjusts its light output to fit the demands of your current riding situation – adjusting brightness to maximize visibility while balancing max overall runtime.
Ride faster or head down hill, and Beam puts out more light to see further. Enter a well-lit urban environment or approach a car in the other direction (which can be controlled via its app), and Beam decreases output to conserve energy and not blind oncoming traffic.
But Beam also automatically pulses strongly as you slow down approaching an intersection or roundabout to increase visibility as well. It even has a Get Me Home mode that automatically reduces power as battery level diminishes to keep reserve power to get you home before the light cuts out.
Beam is a compact 110mm long & 31mm diameter, weighs a little less than 100g, and attaches to your bar or stem with flexible rubber band style mounts. The light has a 2-5hr ‘Reactive Solid’-lit runtime depending on speed & ambient light levels, 30hr on ‘Reactive Flash’.

See.Sense Icon2 smart front & rear visibility lights
The new Icon2 lights are an evolution of See Sense’s first visibility lights, now with more power output and increases smart functionality derived from last year’s Ace. Available in front and rear facing versions, the Icon2 packs in 2 types of LEDs (focused CREE & dispersed CoB) for improved visibility, from up to 3km away and with 270° side visibility as well.
Like the Ace & Beam, the Icon2 uses smart sensor tech to automatically flash brighter & faster at intersections for added visibility. It also includes a core brake mode (again controllable through the app) that will glow solid & bright as you slow down like a car’s brake lights.
The Icon2 put out 300 lumen or red rear, or 400 lumen of white front light, and can automatically adjust its brightness level to increase runtime. In full power ‘Reactive Flash’ mode you get 16hr of light. The Icon2 is 70x28x18mm, weighs <50g, and attaches to you bike with rubber band mounts.

Beam & Icon2 Tech Details
Both of the new lights are designed for use in all light conditions, either night or day. They include ANT+ integration to pair with cycling head units that allow remote light controls. The lights also use Bluetooth to connect to See Sense’s smartphone app for setup & control, which also allows for additional theft, crash & battery level alerts through the app. There is also the possibility to share collected ride data to city planners through the app, with the hopes of helping improve cycling infrastructure. Charging is all via standard micro-USB, and the lights are IP67 rated for waterproof use.
See.Sense lights are designed AND manufactured in the UK (made in Northern Ireland). This Kickstarter is already backed more than 3x their funding goal, but just three days left to get in on the deal closing Dec 20. Beam delivery is estimated for Sept 2019, while the Icon2 is a bit earlier in Jun 2019, with free UK & US delivery.
