Doubling as cyclocross shoes, the new silver Shimano XC901 mountain bike shoes add a fourth color to the line up of their top level MTB kicks. For triathletes, the TR901 Triathlon shoe gets a Black Pearl tint for those Caribbean triathlons full of pirates. Here’s a closer look, matey…
Using dual BOA IP1 dials to secure the shoe to your foot, it’s all sitting on their low profile carbon DYNALAST outsole. The upper is a one-piece synthetic wrap with a slimmer toe box than some of their other shoes (it’s still a bit wider than many Italian shoe brands, though, or at least more “foot shaped” at the forefoot).
Underneath is a Michelin outsole for lightweight grip. Claimed weight is 330g (per shoe). Like them? Get ready to shine up that credit card…they’re $425 a pair. Sizes range from 37-48 with half sizes through most of the range and colors, and wide versions 40-48 in some colors.
Triathletes can sail along with a bit more subtle gloss with the Black Pearl color option, which has a pearl-like translucence over a black base. The upper is a lightweight, water-resistant synthetic leather.
An external heel cup and stiff carbon sole keep your foot planted, and a huge upper strap and heel loop make them quick to get on and off. Available in a massive size range from 36 to 50, claimed weight is 230g and retail is $275.
