Silca has debuted a new 4-part eco-friendly Ultimate Bike Care line-up to clean and protect your bike through the off-season. Silca Ultimate Bike Care line-up
Describing their new Ultimate Bike Care line-up as “responsible & eco-friendly”, Silca aims to help make sure your bike stays “clean and shiny during the winter – without ruining the environment”. They claim to be able to do that by using four different components that are each specifically tailored to a certain step of the ‘clean & protect’ process, “reducing the number of chemicals and impact on the environment” vs. more one-step do-it-all type solutions.
Four steps, mix-and-match for a clean bike, as needed
Step 1: Silca’s Ultimate family starts with the 36€ Ultimate Brake + Drivetrain Cleaner (16oz/473ml), a 3-minute spray & soak procedure that turns red as it breaks down brake dust, road grime & oil “with a Fireball scent” (that’s cinnamon for those of you normal people.) Rinse well, and your drivetrain is ready for Step 3 or a fresh lube.
Step 2: The 30€ Ultimate Bike Wash (16oz/473ml) is the environmentally-friendly bubble bath for your whole bike. “Advanced surfactants lift dirt from all painted surfaces and encapsulate it so that it can safely be scrubbed or rinsed away without leaving micro scratches or swirl marks in the paint.” It’s made to use with warm water for a deep clean, scrub it in and off with a sponge or brush, then rinse clean with a lingering cherry scent.
Step 3: A more expensive 54€ Ultimate Spray Wax with Graphene (16oz/473ml) leverages nanotech to “seal in the clean”. Much like a wax finish, you spray it on a towel and buff it into the paint for a longer-lasting shine. This one smells like margaritas… seriously, and is not brake-friendly!
Lastly, Step 4: The 36€ Ultimate Ceramic Waterless Wash and Protectant (16oz/473ml) brings out more polymeric surfactants in a Piña Colada scented cleaner that you spray on and just wipe away to knock off a bit of dirt in between real washes. And as it dries, it leaves a “micron thick protective layer” of silica ceramic wax to keep your ride looking good.
It’s not especially clear how advanced polymeric surfactants, nano-Graphene, ceramic & SiO2 particles that ultimately get washed down the drain are exactly eco-friendly. So, I guess we have to take Silca’s word for it, right? And sure, a clean and protected bike is great, but does it really need to be scented?
The whole new Silca Ultimate Bike Care line debuts today, but will slowly roll-out this autumn, with full availability expected by mid-November.
Silca Pogačar Pink Program to fight Breast Cancer
Beyond magic Silca Ultimate cleaners to protect your ride, a dash of pink will always make your bike pop! Silca’s new collaboration with the Tadej Pogačar Foundation is a project they’re especially proud of, and hope will do a lot to bring more resources to the metabolic research conducted by his coach Dr. Iñigo San-Millán at University of Colorado’s School of Medicine. Read more about Pogačar’s decision to fund emerging research on cancer metabolism and exercise therapies for patients suffering with cancer now at his own Foundation’s website.
The Silca x Pogačar Pink breast cancer campaign will be an annual initiative to raise money & awareness with special edition water bottle cages, shop tools, bottle openers, bar tape, aero socks, and more. Essentially anything that Silca can make in pink, they will, with proceeds going to support the Tadej Pogačar Cancer Research Foundation.
Silca also hints that Tadej Pogačar will boost the partnership at the upcoming Il Lombardia race on October 8th, together with a reveal from shoemaker DMT who recently debuted a limited edition Pogi version of their 3D-knit lace-up KRSL road shoes. We’d expect to see some more pink.
