Shimano’s GRX groups launched a little while ago, along with gravel-specific alloy cockpit parts to complete the build. Which mainly meant a flared handlebar to go with the existing alloy post and stem. Now, they’re set to launch a new line of carbon parts under the Discover brand line. Joining them will be new frame bags, including a saddle bag, under-top tube frame bag, and a feed bag. Here’s a quick look on video, and photos…
Full specs and details won’t be released until September 4th, but we spotted these on our demo bikes at the GRX Di2 ride event. Shimano’s reps didn’t mind the cameras, but were staying tightlipped about any details.
From what we can tell, specs on the seatpost and handlebar will likely be similar to what’s offered in alloy, but weights should be a good bit lighter. And, more importantly, we expect them to be more compliant and better at damping vibration.
The only one on display has the milder flare, not the super wide option available in aluminum.
Also on display were new, smaller versions of the original frame bags shown last year. The saddle bag has a small roll-top closure at the back and robust straps to keep it in place over washboards and rough road surfaces.
Up front, the small frame bag uses hook-and-loop closures to secure itself to the frame and has a bright, Shimano-blue interior to make it easier to find small bits inside it. A feedback uses opposing straps to connect to both the bar and stem to create stability and keep your snacks or bottle close at hand.
More details coming once we hit the ground at Eurobike.
