SOC18: Vittoria Terreno Zero gravel tire debuts w/ carbon wheels, plus Air Liner MTB insert

Vittoria had a new gravel tire called the Terreno Zero, which builds on the excellent dry conditions Terreno Dry cyclocross tire they introduced last year. We’ve reviewed it and loved it, which makes us very excited for its transition to a smoother, wider version for gravel and all road adventure riding. To go with it, they have a new Elusion Carbon Disc wheelset, which comes in two depths. For mountain bikers, they’re flying in a new Air Liner to help prevent pinch flats and damaged rims while improving control.

The Terreno Zero comes in two sizes, 700×37 and 650×47, and brings their best tire tech along for the ride. The smooth center section comes from their Corsa road bike tires, and the angled hexagons from their fast rolling Terreno Dry CX tire. The rubber features their Graphene compound for excellent grip and durability.

Those scales keep it rolling smooth on the corners, but still provide bite and good braking thanks to the angles they hit the ground with. They’re available in tubeless ready, TNT (tube or not), and standard tube-type folding versions, all using a 120tpi casing. Look for them to hit stores in July for $54 each.

Vittoria Elusion Carbon Wheels

The new Vittoria Elusion Carbon offer a more affordable entry into carbon wheelsets than their Graphene-infused Quarano wheels.

They’ll use Vittoria’s own road disc hubs with a Centerlock rotor interface.

The rims measure just 17mm wide internally, which is a bit narrower than what we’re seeing for most “gravel” wheels these days, but should be fine for at least a 700×25 or 700×28. Vittoria is billing them as a do-it-all wheelset for gravel, too, though. We’ve reviewed the alloy versions on a gravel bike here, too, and those measure 18mm internally.

If you want to go wider, and get the Graphene, check out their Race mountain bike wheels, which are lighter than these and measure 25mm internally…but cost more.

Vittoria Air Liner MTB Tire Insert

The Vittoria Air Liner is a high density, yet lightweight, polymer foam that can withstand up to 2,000 hours of riding. Its purpose is to support your tire while riding hard, especially when you want to run lower pressures.

Developed by Italian company Skopre under the original product name ABS Roc, it lets you get more traction over gnarly terrain without worrying about smacking your rim on everything…or pinch flatting. Even with the ability to ride with no air pressure after major tire damage.

The material is non-porous or absorptive…so it won’t soak up your sealant or take on water and become a boat anchor. The dual sided grooves let you use any traditional tubeless valve stem, and the outer groove helps it deform along with your tire for more natural handling characteristics. It comes in four sizes:

• S = 1.9-2.25″ XC/Marathon
• M = 2.25–2.5″ All MTN/Enduro
• L = 2.5–2.70″ Enduro/Plus
• XL = 2.70-4.00″ Plus/Fat

Simply cut it to length to fit anything from 29er to your kid’s 20″ bike. Retail is $85 per tire, claimed weight starts at about 140g.
