Speedvagen’s stock, factory-build Ready Made series brought an update to their classic King OG road bike back in the fall. But now the steel Original Gangster gets a proper modern road update with the addition of flat mount disc brakes and thru-axles.
Speedvagen Ready Made Disc OG modern steel road bike
While Speedvagen went for a shiny colorful build for the classic King OG, the new more modern Disc OG is all business. Sure this is a premium, made-in-America steel road bike with Vanilla’s signature attention to detail. But the Speedvagen Disc OG is more of a no-nonsense bike for all-around road riding and racing. This is a road bike for those who appreciate the nicer things in life, but are unwilling to sacrifice modern performance or durability.
The Disc OG, like their other Ready Made bikes, is available only as a single complete bike option, with buyers locking in their bike with a $500 deposit. Then the Vanilla Workshop builds them in batches based on demand. Even though a single complete package is the overarching concept of the Ready Made line, there is still the possibility for some further customization, including Army Green or Vanilla Blue paint in either matte or gloss finish, plus the option for some extra ENVE carbon upgrades.
And of course they cut the integrated seatmast to length for each buyer, and only install the braze-ons that you actually need. You can also upgrade to Di2 or eTap if the stock Ultegra mechanical isn’t fancy enough for you.
Speedvagen Ready Made Disc OG – tech details
The new bike is welded from Speedvagen’s own customized premium multi-butted steel tubeset, with their signature seat mast, swooping hourglass seatstays, and tapered headtube.
The Disc OG is built around flat mount disc brakes and 12mm thru-axles, front & rear, built around a ENVE Disc Road fork.
Geometry for the bike is race-ready with a balance or stability & snappy handling in six stock sizes from 50-60cm (60cm not shown). Matching the modern disc frame & fork, the Disc OG has clearance for up to 32mm tires.
Speedvagen is never one to go for a budget build it seems, but the Ready Made Disc OG features a no-frills, reliable build kit with a complete Shimano Ultegra R8000 mechanical, hydraulic groupset, alloy Easton EA70SL wheels with 28mm Donnelly Strada LGG tires. Cockpit is equal on solid, affordable performance with an alloy PRO bar & stem, alloy Ritchey seatpost head, and ti-railed Fabric Scoop saddle.
All that adds up to a complete bike price of $5995, before you start adding any of the over-the-top options. The good news from the Ready Made line-up is that once you put down your deposit, a delivery estimate for the Disc OG is a reasonable 2 months til you will hit the road on a new bike…
