SEA OTTER CLASSIC 2010 – SRAM’s X9 group also gets the 2×10 treatment and some very updated and refined looks.  There are two apparent color options for the graphics, gray and white.  Sure, we’ve got the polished media-ready photos and specs coming, but sometimes it’s just nice to see what everything looks like on the bike.  In a dark room.  Crowded with people.

Their quick link has gone from gold to black for the 10 speed chains.  Brushed alloy crankarms have nice sculpted forms and give the package a very high end look and feel.

An example of the white graphics are most visible on the cranks, rings and rear derailleur (below).

Front derailleur will work with either top- or bottom-pull frame configurations.

The cassette bounces the light around from the flash pretty well, almost making it glow inside.  Good to know for those night time podium shots, you winner you.  While the X9 branding didn’t carry over to the brakes, there were some X9 hubs on several bikes.

While not as shiny and polished, the X9 triggers look pretty similar to the X0, which wouldn’t be surprising since earlier generations were very similar from X7 through X0…often times weighing exactly the same (though shift “click” feel was more enhanced on the upper end models).

Oh, what’s that?  A red X9 graphic?  Yep, but we didn’t see it on any other parts at the unveiling party.  More coming…

Any word on Q-factor? Can I use these cranks on my Blur?

this may sound sad, but I think the single coolest thing on there is someone finally using hex bolts for limit screw adjustment. Cheesy small phillips screws for a machine meant to take abuse always end up stripped.

and which one of these cranks will work on my 2010 Specialized Epic OSBB9991x sized Bottom Bracket?
without any adapters…

I’m not that excited about 10 speed mountain stuff, I’ll stick with 9 thank you. But I am excited about equipping my SRAM loaded cyclocross bike with a 10 speed x7 of 9 rear derailleur and using an 11-32 cassette w/48-34 chainrings…. My problem with 10 speed off road is that it wears out much faster than 9 speed. And to that extent fuck Campagnolo and that 11 speed crap, I don’t need to buy an 80 dollar chain.

I just want a decent 9×2 option… 9spd is delicate enough..

I want the cranks, but I still want to use my 9 speed, that should work, right? 9 speed cranks worked with 8 speed. A 26 front 34 rear should be plenty low of a gear. Would you need a new front der, or would a 9 speed work with a new shifter? I’m too much of a gear mashing clyde to trust a 10 speed chain.
