State Bicycle Co. announced the Azure, a retro commuter bike painted in one color – ‘Caroline Blue’. It’s outfitted with gumwall tires, mustache bars, and even an uber-simple coaster brake to keep maintenance and price low. Options include a single speed or Shimano Nexus 3-speed drivetrain, along with extra front and rear racks or baskets.
State Bicycle Co. Azure steel hybrid commuter bike
State Bicycle Co. is bringing real steel to really low prices, often at sub-$600 for a complete bike. The new Azure is decidedly on the casual end of the spectrum, great for a short commute or weekend coffee ride (date?). It starts with a no-nonsense steel frame and fork, along with options for a single speed drivetrain or Shimano Nexus 3-speed internal gear hub.
35mm gumwall tires match the leatherette saddle and brown grips. Mustache bars and a chain guard round out the retro style package.
While the stock model doesn’t come with racks, a Deluxe option has available front and rear racks, or a front basket.
The Azure comes in three sizes, all with 700c wheels.
The Azure is available now for $390 in single speed trim, or $489 for geared. Azure Deluxe models with basket and rack options start at $469 in single speed. All complete bikes include metal pedals and a five year frame warranty.
