When you want a bike that is as simple as it is dependable without breaking the bank, steel is real. For those worried more about grins than grams, it is a completely worthy compromise. State Bicycle Company has a couple of new options now available on their web-store in the Pulsar 29er which is as pleasing to your eyes as it is your wallet. It comes in two well built single speed flavors that might just fit the bill…

We first saw the Pulsar 29er bikes at Interbike and though the 4130 chromoly frame probably wouldn’t impress your weight weenie friends, it should provide a solid ride with a good feel. The parts build on the “standard” model bike follow suit to the frame’s sturdiness and won’t leave you hanging when things get rough. Built with a rigid fork, the $649 price tag brings the “you gotta pay to play” to a more realistic level for many. So not to just be another boring mountain bike, State reached out to graphic artist DKLEIN to put some signature graphics on the frame giving it some subtle style.

Pulsar SS 29er Mountain Bike Specs:

  • Frame & Fork: 4130 Chromoly Steel w/ “Pulsar” graphics by DKLEIN
  • Wheels: WTB SX 19 29” Rims – 32H Disc Hubs
  • Tires: WTB Vigilante 29” x 2.3”
  • Crank: Truvativ E 400 w/ 32t Chainring (Powerspline Bottom Bracket)
  • Brakes: Avid BB5 Brake System
  • Saddle: WTB Rocket
  • Available Sizes: 15”, 17”, 19”

Taking it up a notch, the $1,099 Deluxe Pulsar SS adds some squish up front with a Rockshox Recon solo air fork and a slight upgrade to some of the components. Right now their site states if you buy now, they will include a free bike lock w/ purchase of any bicycle by using code LOVELOCKED2016 and offer free shipping on U.S. orders over $50.

More pointless tire sliding to make up for the uninspired riding. Could the industry please stop showing people skidding, so we can have more time to ride and less time spent fixing trails.

Needs a optional rd hanger for those looking to start at the bottom and later upgrading to gears…..

You could always run an internally geared disc hub otherwise Problem Solvers makes a somewhat universal derailleur hanger meant for on the side repairs.

Someone actually paid for that chicken scrawl on the frame? “Graphic Artist.”
