State Bicycle’s affordable 6061 Black Label All-Road mixed surface road & gravel bike is back with a new stealthy look and new 1x State builds. After both steel & alloy versions of their All-Road bikes have repeatedly sold out quickly, you’ll again need to act fast to get one of these latest builds. And we all know how constrained bike supplies will continue to be this year!

The 6061 Black Label All-Road is State’s answer to building a lightweight, versatile mixed-surface bike to take on anything from all-road touring to commuting to proper gravel road riding. Just like their original steel All-Road gravel bike, State keeps it simple, and keeps pricing affordable.

What’s new?

The details of the frame, fork, and 650b or 700c wheelsize options don’t change with this refresh, but you do get two new almost black colors to choose from – Deep Pacific blue and Dark Woodland green.

The Dark Woodland bikes also look to now get tan wall tires, too!

The other big shift is a move away from the SRAM drivetrain of the first generation of State’s lighter, faster alloy all-road & gravel bike. Now the Black Label All-Road will be built up with State’s own-branded 1×11 drivetrain – perhaps a shift to isolate State from the forecast supply chain issues in acquiring SRAM components?

What stays the same?

Gearing is the same – 42T x 11-42, but off-road riders will likely appreciate the larger hoods and more Shimano-like ergonomics of State’s shifters, vs. the smaller round hoods of the Apex mechanical brake levers. Everything else on the bike remains the same too, from the Tektro mechanical brakes to house brand alloy components & tubeless-ready wheels to the 700x45mm or 650×2.2″ tire clearance.

Check out our original coverage for the details on the 6061 alloy frame & full carbon fork(s) here.

State 6061 Black Label All-Road – Pricing, options & availability

2021 State 6061 Black Label All-Road affordable alloy gravel bike updates, 650b or 700c builds

The new 2021 State 6061 Black Label All-Road comes in the same four stock sizes (XS 48-L 58cm) in both new colors.

There’s still the option to pick either 650b wheels with 47mm/1.9″ Vittoria Terreno Dry gravel tires or faster rolling 700c wheels with 38mm Vittoria Terreno Zero tires all-road tires for the same $1400 price. There should also be the $350 option to add the second complete wheelset for quick swaps back & forth (including wheels, tires, tubes, cassette & rotors), but it doesn’t seem to be available now in the pre-order.

The Black Label All-Road should also be available as a $680 frameset option too. The new dark colors haven’t appeared on State’s website for frames yet, but there is still some stock of the original Copper brown & Pigeon gray available.

Again, you can also upgrade from the standard carbon fork (with low-rider rack & fender mounts) to the bikepacking-ready carbon Monster Fork for an extra $180, adding 3-pack anything cage mounts.

About that pre-order, State is taking orders for the new bikes now, but they aren’t going to ship for one month. It seems that this is less about trying to gauge interest in the bikes, and more just that all the other stock was already gone. State still expects these pre-orders to sell out, so act quickly if you need a new affordable gravel bike!

And a sustainable, recycled All-Road jersey too…

Want to look fancy on your new state? They’ve added a pair of new long sleeve All-Road jerseys to go with the bikes. $60 a pop, they are made from State’s recycled polyester fabric, like their ‘sustainable collection‘ short sleeve jerseys & bibs. The new jerseys get a relaxed fit, small zippered side-access rear pocket, and a dropped tail – in Sonoran tan and Pigeon gray to compliment the original 4130 or 6061 All-Roads.

I think you mean “house brand” not “in-house” when referring to their drivetrain components.

Looks good for the price. I’d like to know who makes those shifters.

They appear to be Sensah. You can get shifters and derailleurs on ebay for $105.

A savvy craigslister could build that bike–pretty close–fir $4-600. Different components, but probably more legitimate, branded components. And a lot more soul, too.

$4-600?! Who wants used, pre-cut components? Go for it and prove me wrong.

You don’t need a fancy bike! Thank you State Bicycle Co. for providing a decently priced bike. The majority of gravel riders ride to drink beers afterwards.

Oh, I have built it. Several times. And who wants used components? Me. And others that can’t afford new ones but don’t want to settle for rebranded, off-brand basement chinese spec. There’s something to be said for savvy shopping and a discerning eye.

I guess the price is okay for the US market, but in EU you can just get direct-to-consumer brand gravel bikes (Canyon, Rose, Vitus) for similar price with GRX hydraulics instead of re-branded Sensah mechanicals…
