Ready to get off the grid, and bring your bike along for the ride? Mountain biking is often intertwined with camping, and now off-road teardrop trailer company Escapod has teamed with bicycle rack company Kuat to build the ultimate escape pod. The TOPO2 MTB is a small, nimble camper that is light and easy to tow. That’s key when seeking access to some truly epic ride locations. As a result, Escapod is calling it “the world’s first purpose-built mountain bike-specific camper.”
That’s a bold statement; let’s see if it holds up.

The Topo2 MTB
Some of the key features of this trailer include the single-piece fiberglass shell, 23 inches of ground clearance, and R:9 insulation. Plus, it comes with an “industry-best” 5-year warranty.
I’m someone who really enjoys vehicle-supported exploration. Being self-supported while off-grid for many days in a row appeals to me. And this trailer looks to have everything you would need to explore some great, remote mountain bike riding.

It can hold 21 gallons of water and has a powerful, integrated heating system. It carries a full medical kit, so you’re probably covered if things go sideways.
The Topo2 MTB also comes equipped with the new Kuat Piston ION eBike rack that can hold two 80lb eBikes. You also get a full Feedback Sports Team Edition Tool Kit to keep your bikes healthy as well.

Topo2 MTB Cabin

The cabin of the Topo2 has a fully insulated interior, keeping you cozy in the Winter months and cool in the Summer. There’s a lot of cabinet space for riding or just day-to-day gear. After a tough day in the saddle, you can utilize the equipped outside shower for a quick rinse before a fireside chill.
The Galley

The galley on the back of the TOPO2 MTB is nicely equipped to meet the needs of either the backcountry chefs or the trail-side mechanics.

It can store everything from your favorite kitchen tools to your favorite bike tools, all of which, thoughtfully integrated into the cabinet structure. This leaves plenty of room for the included Medical Points Abroad Medical Kit and, of course, well-earned post-ride beverages.
The Hitch

Adding to the Topo2 MTB’s off-road versatility is the Switchback Hitch. It’s seamlessly integrated into the trailer’s frame and body. Its swing-away design lets you get into the galley even when fully loaded with bikes.
It sports three locking positions and claims to stay “rock-solid on uneven terrain”. Built with galvanized interior and exterior components, it’s engineered for a durable, long-lasting finish that stands up to the elements.
Switchback Hitch Accessory Pack

The Topo2 MTB also comes quipped with a rugged bull bar. On this bull bar, you’ll find an integrated Feedback Sports Mechanic Clamp Head. Handy. Plus, there’s an accessory plate designed to secure a mounted RotoPax for water storage. Helping to make trail-side maintenance a breeze, the Feedback Sports Bike Workstand can mount to the accessory plate. This provides a stable solution for simple tasks like mounting a tire or lubing a chain.
Kuat ION Bike Rack

For the bike rack, Escapapod teamed with Kuat on the new Piston ION rack which is RV rated, and built rugged to handle heavy ebikes. Under normal use, the rack will carry up to 80lbs per tray. For off-road and RV use, that drops to 50lbs per tray.
Kuat says it’s engineered to withstand the “toughest demands”, and “showcases the expertise behind some of the world’s best bike racks”.
THe TOPO2’s Suspension

The TOPO2 MTB is designed to help you seek out remote trailheads or rugged campsites. But these things can push your vehicle and its trailer to the limit. But with the TOPO2 MTB’s industry-leading 23 inches of ground clearance and purpose-built Freeride Suspension, If your vehicle can make it, the TOPO2 MTB will be right behind it.
The Durable One-Piece Shell

The Escapod TOPO2 MTB uses a patented single-piece molded fiberglass shell design and creates a teardrop that is ultralight, ultra-durable, and has larger usable space without substantially increasing the camper’s footprint. It’s also small enough that it should fit in most garage bays.
