PRESS RELEASE: Only one month after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) agreed to the WFSGI’s request to allow Bicycle frames at the London 2012 Olympics to carry a brand logo size on both sides of the frame as “commercially available and/or used in UCI races”, the IOC and the UCI acknowledged to further amendments. “It was extremely important for the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry to pass on the concerns raised by the Bicycle industry in regards of the logo identification marks on the headset and the crank sets to the UCI and the IOC. Of course, we are very relieved to learn that our intervening was successful again. The IOC and the UCI agreed to amend the policies regarding the head and crank set as well to the frame”, says Robbert de Kock, Secretary General of the WFSGI. The previous rules did not foresee an exception for the headset, nor was there any definition for the crank set identification marks.

Headset – One identification of the manufacturer is permitted on each side of either the stem, the handlebars OR the extensions, IF different from the manufacturer of the frame. Only the identification of the manufacturer of the stem, respectively the handlebars or extensions, is permitted.
Exception – If the manufacturer is different for each of the above components (namely, the stem, handlebars or extensions – one identification of the manufacturer will be permitted on each of the components and to a size not greater than 10% of the surface area.
Crank set – All crank sets may carry the identification as generally used on products sold through the retail trade during the period of 12 months prior to the Games.
Frame – One identification of the manufacturer and one model name is permitted on each side of the frame. Only the identification of the manufacturer of the frame and the name of the frame model are permitted.
